I thought that I wanted to live to be 100, but as I get older, I would add the caveat of if it is a “quality 100”. I don’t want to sit in a wheelchair for the last 10 to 15 years and have my diaper changed. No thanks.
yeah, the bottom line stuff is living alone because your wife has died and your children moved to Belize. Won't be much run to hardly be able to move around and have to struggle to get into a wheelchair. Maybe The Who had a point, ("Hope I die before I get old"), but now Pete and Roger kind of blow that idea to smithereens. The other thing that getting that old really sucks with is seeing all the stupid sh*t going on in the world, knowing what you had and realizing that no young people get it.
I’m trying so hard to be patient with JHS and watch him develop. But watching him play, I cannot help every time, wonder what our scouts and FO saw in him when he was working out for us. To my eye, he plays like he’s trying to not make mistakes and get pulled from the game, he looks tentative, he does no one thing that well. I don’t want see him as a trade throw-in, because he could still become a competent backup, but man, as of right now I just don’t see it.
He shouted Mamba Mentality to start and end his interview and Rob was impressed and remembered during draft time, after the Laker prospects were already taken by Dallas and Atlanta.
I'm G league he seems to play a lot more confident jacking up shots I don't know I've just have never seen it with him and if hes only confident with a green light to shoot like in the G League that ain't great for a PG
he does play scared on the big squad. i think what they saw in him was very good positional size, high character, and no injury red flags. again, i think we really wanted to trade that pick. i honestly think a better question is why we spent a bunch of cash to get max lewis. we basically were forced to use the 17. nobody forced us to buy into the second round. well, he did get up 6 shots in 13 minutes the other night. he just missed them all, lol. i think the biggest issue with jhs is just that literally the three guys taken right after him are all substantially better, and lots of people thought so even ahead of the draft (i wanted podz, whitmore was mocked in the mid lotto consistently, jacquez starred in our back yard). anyway, i don't think the book is closed on him. dlo or gabe will be out at some point this season, and he'll be thrust into the rotation for a period of time. at that point, we'll get a real sense of whether progress has been made. but he DID play well in the g league, and teammates and coaches consistently claim he's doing well in practice/camp/etc. they don't have to go out of their way to say that stuff. nobody in washington is saying johnny davis is playing well, for example. if i'm waiving anyone, it's a two-way, and it's probably castleton. just not much progress there, and he's 25. i'm not sure we'd play him even if AD went down.
i don't think he's that bad, and i don't think he's gotten nearly the chance that lots of others in his position have gotten. people are talking about him playing tentative and fearing failure, but this kind of happens on teams with super high (unrealistic) expectations. nobody expected anything of podziemski, and gs was forced to play him because cp3 was old. to his credit, he played well, but he wasn't going to be pulled for mistakes or missed shots because they basically couldn't do that. meanwhile, ham was playing jhs off the ball on offense for like, 3-4 minutes at a time. it's hard to get a rhythm like that. when he got regular burn in the g league, he consistently produced. even in the preseason in the lone game he played more than 20 minutes he put up 6 assists and 0 turnovers. the next three games, he played 16, 9, and 13 minutes. we can't really expect progress without any reps, imo. and he can't get reps while we're trying to claw out wins. if he was drafted by the hornets or raptors or something, he could be failing on the job to learn how to succeed. it's just not an option here. this is why i agree with weezy that using him as a throw-in on a trade or having to sweeten a trade to get someone to take him could end up looking really bad.
I think we gave him a chance last year, but his rope got yanked pretty quickly because he just wasn't that good. He needed a year in the G-League and he likely needs another year with some rotational minutes thrown in here or there in garbage time or injuries. I just don't think he's quite ready yet, and that's fine. Hopefully, Russell, Vincent, & Reaves stay healthy. He had way more leash in the G-League. He's not getting that leash with the parent club. Does that contribute to his lack of confidence and inadequate play on the basketball court? Maybe. Grant it, I'm not so down on him, I just think he needs time, and he isn't going to get it here. IMO. I also think the Lakers thought he would be more NBA ready and that just hasn't happened. Either way, I stand by what I said; if he's getting significant minutes, we're most likely screwed.
yeah, i get why you'd say that; i'm just saying it's not guaranteed to be a dumpster fire if he has to play 20mpg for a stretch during this season. i agree he's probably not ready, though. and if they thought a 19 year old rookie would be ready last year, they were smoking some good stuff. there just aren't many 19/20 year old rookie pgs playing meaningful minutes on winning teams.
What did they see in him? Honestly he looks worse with playing time. I mean if you took away the draft position I would actually think Bronny is a better prospect. You could at least the see the archetype with Bronny as Avery Bradley type (and clearly Bronny was selected where he should have been a mid second rounder). JHS looks likethe guy at the park who you hate playing with because he wants to jack mid range jump shots all day
