I’m all for keeping DLo at big numbers if he plays really well in the play-in/playoffs.
If we make the eighth seed and have to play Denver, I don’t expect us to win more than one game, but if it’s anyone else in the first round, I’m hoping DLo can continue his hot streak.
We will still have defensive issues in the backcourt next season, unless we drop Ham AND somehow find a way to bring back Windiddie.
I love Austin and like DLo, but those guys have real issues as a pairing against quick guards. However, a real coach next year would be able to figure out how to maximize those three. I guess I have to throw Vincent in there, but at this point, I have no idea how or if he can return to form.

with that said - we should keep DLO at all costs, and find a way to keep Dinwiddie too and maybe offload Gabe + 2024 first round pick + JHS for a legit big to put next to AD

tax is projected at 172, and the mle caps you at the second apron (should be 189 or so? first apron is 7 above tax, second is 17.5).

we stand at 178 with 12 guys signed. this included the POs from cam/wood/hayes (one or more of those might opt out, freeing up some cash).

this assumes prince walks, and we'd still have max's contract to deal with.

dlo's on the books for 18. if he opts out, we're suddenly in range for mle. if he doesn't, i think we're not--or we'd have to let prince walk (likely follows ham out the door) and let max walk (unlikely, imo). with dlo's money off the books, i think you can re-sign max AND use the full mle.

i could just see jeanie being very tempted to let dlo walk and pay spencer the full mle just to keep costs down in general. just as was the case last year, the shrewdest move is a large two-year contract with a team option on the second year for dlo, but that's too much short term pain financially for the mom & pop shop. if we were owned by lacob, dlo would be signed to two years 70 million with a team option or something like that. makes him very tradable and gives him enough money up front to feel confident that if he's not picked up, he'll make up the difference.

Lakers shoudl just give DLO a 3yr $90M deal with the 3rd year being team option. That way he gets guaranteed $30M per year for 2 years. Lines him up with Reaves and Rui too I believe and he's made "whole" for taking the paycut last summer. Everybody wins and I think he's still tradeable.

Unfortunately we are going to be getting stiff competition from others, including Orlando who has a gaping hole at PG, and even the Spurs who would benefit greatly from having DLO as a steady guard next to Vassell. we wont' be getting a hometown discount on DLO this summer, and quite frankly, unless he COMPLETELY flames out in the playoffs, he deserves the amount we're talkign about.

here's what's interesting to me: russell is actually very much the same player he's always been, imo (as he's basically said himself). is he worth more than he signed for last summer? yes. but nobody came calling with 30 per last summer, so i'd be a little surprised if someone did this time.

he is a theoretical fit in orlando, but i wouldn't be surprised if they went looking for bigger fish, tbh. they have a ton of space and own all their picks (and have a couple incoming). they could nab a star if one shakes loose.

anyway, it will be very interesting to see how the pg situation plays out for us.

That’s what I was thinking … somewhere around 25M per and he would probably be OK with it. All depends how he does in the play-in / playoffs if we get there.

if it's more than two years, i don't think i want the player option. i'd be willing to do another 1+1 with him at a slightly higher amount with a PO. as the salary/length goes up, i want team options or partial guarantees on the back end.

A recent report suggests that people around the NBA have linked Los Angeles Lakers floor general D’Angelo Russell to the Orlando Magic ahead of the guard’s potential free agency.

“Orlando’s the team,” Lakers insider Jovan Buha said. “Orlando is the team that — talking to people with the Lakers, talking to people outside the Lakers — Orlando is the team that probably gives them the most concern in terms of a potential suitor.”

If we just let him walk, it will be similar to the Dwight situation, but worse.

The D'Angelo vs Dennis matchup should be entertaining.

i'm sure schroder will light it up for his once-monthly appearance before returning to be a full-on net minus, as he has been for a few years now, at every stop.

Will Ham be silly enough for Vincent’s rumored possible return today, for first action, to throw him in the fire immediately and stick him on Dennis to see if HE’s quick enough to semi stay in front of him? Would be asking a lot of a guy coming back from injury, but he’s done it to Cam earlier.
