I'm not sure he cares enough about the rewards to change anything. After the way he started his career with injuries, I wouldn't blame him for listening to his body above all else. He's still having an MVP type year even if he doesn't qualify. But this is exactly the scenario we need to see so the young players take availability seriously.

embiid is pretty damned concerned with individual accolades, which is why he catches flak when he sits out the marquee matchups on the road.

i agree that the games played thing is a good incentive to avoid the random "rest" games for non-oldz. if you think these guys don't care about the awards, i've got something else to sell you. you can tell AD is super pissed he never gets any dpoy consideration (and he should be).

in embiid's specific case, it's interesting he sat another game after the one in question. this is the second time i remember people saying something about random knee swelling with him this year. recurrent unexplained knee swelling is very bad. seems like it's becoming increasingly difficult for elite bigs to stay on the floor in the nba. is it the changes in style of play? has it always been this way? i feel like ewing and olajuwon and those guys didn't routinely miss big chunks of the year, but maybe i just didn't pay attention.

I remember both of them did late in their careers, I vividly remember these massive knee wraps in the post Knicks and post Rockets portion of their careers. But these two in particular...
Ewing: misses games his first two years but then from the ages 25-34 the most games he missed in a year...6
Hakeem missed some more time, but over his first 13 seasons still averaged 75 games.

Difference is these guys just f***ing played. They took pride it every game. They had actual practices between games. And on game night they'd beat the hell out of each other in the paint.

The only thing I can think of is players today started playing earlier. The rise of AAU started this. I'd be curious to see a study done in 5 years or so the affects of starting playing serious hoops on these guys at such a young age. Cause other than that, I got nothing especially with how much players are spending to maintain their bodies. I mean in the 90s, they'd crack a beer after the game. I've seen the argument players are playing longer now, but other than some other worldly athletes who have been very lucky with health... i'm not seeing it.

Steph vs Sabrina NBA All Star weekend. First ever 3 point shootout man against woman. Their respective arc distances and sizes of basketballs of course. She set some kind of record men or women and is feeling pretty cocky. In this article she has quipped she’ll shoot from the men’s distance …. “Let’s get it!”.

Well well well, he re-tore his meniscus again: Sixers star Joel Embiid to miss games with injured meniscus | NBA.com

I think Embiid is just an inherently injury prone guy given how he came into the NBA with that foot problem. He always misses time every year.

Embiid can go screw himself. Have never seen a douchier, more entitled and j******y player in my life. He is also a Haren/CP2.5-level flopper.

yeah, when we were at peak "mr. glass" meme with AD, and everyone was kissing embiid's a**, i was really confused. dude's never played 70 games in a season and has played 51 or fewer games in 5 of the 9 seasons he's been in the league (including 2 full missed seasons). AD isn't an iron man, but as i said above, nba bigs get hurt a lot. jokic is the exception that proves the rule.

yeah, i'm not a huge fan of his persona and approach. i do think he's very harden-esque in a lot of ways, including being very cagey about how to make himself look great without really producing wins at the top level. there's a reason both he and harden are notorious for looking like different dudes in the playoffs.

Boston's path to the Finals just got clearer.

They aren't scared of anyone but us, but only if we don't play with Vando, Bron, and AD.

    Go figure.

that's not what he said, though, right? he said one way or another, it's not being reported/communicated accurately.

i'm not a doctor (of this sort), but i feel like most meniscus stuff can respond to rest, but you run the risk that it doesn't heal properly or fully and you reinjure it or don't really recover. i think if he did opt for surgery, that could be the season, though.

but let's be honest--his knee has been a ticking time bomb all season based on the little reports here and there, right? sorta like gabe. it just swelled up! not sure why! but it's gone now. super...

Look, 76ers fans: I'm no doctor, but a displaced flap is something you use some duct tape on and you're good to go. You're welcome!

...Oh? I'm being told it's not quite that simple. Fer crisskes doc, give it to us straight. Do I have a "circular hole-wound" or was I shot in the head?

Honestly, I don't feel a thing!! But why do I feel like I am floating above the surgery table?

I don't know...at this point it throbs. All I can remember was - once again, a recurring theme in my life - someone yelling "I want my MONEY, muthafukuh!" - then I heard an intense ringing that hasn't stopped for multiple days. It's annoying AF, and I don't mind admitting I'm actually thinking of going to a walk-in clinic. A couple of Tylenol haven't put a dent in it...unlike the dent in my forehead. Please advise?

When we were all on Clublakers, now defunct, before @Barnstable and others created this great site, maybe even in its early days here (?) we used to have several or at least one Doctor member(s). They could have helped you with that. Bummer!! All I ever have to offer is "Shoot it Up" and get on with it!

    Headed for surgery

Embiid will undergo a procedure this week to repair a left meniscus injury, a 76ers team official tells Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. A timeline for Embiid's return is expected to be provided following the procedure, but the expectation is that the center will miss an extended period of time.

Tough to have happen during your best statistical year. Hope he recovers for the playoffs so there are multiple contenders in the East.
