Dlo has been traded by a bunch of teams. He’s not helping his case IMO by not talking to the press. You are getting paid like a professional, act like one. Could the Lakers have handled it better, sure but 2 wrongs don’t equal 1 right. I think he really needs to think about how he’s viewed in the league by other teams front office personnel, since he might be playing for one soon.

Plus it's his play that has added fuel to the fire - it's not like this trade talk came out of the blue. He played like trash since the IST final.
Act like professional is good advice for him

    In Dlo's defense

So the two guys we're most likely to trade have the best plus/minus :Kobe Shrug:

just going to have to agree to disagree with everyone on dlo's value. i think he's super important to the team, and it will be hard to trade him for equal value--much less an upgrade--given what all we have to offer.

i posted this in the other thread in terms of possible dlo deals that a) bring back a pg and b) don't include rui:

none of them really excite me, but we'll probably have to attempt one because we've made a bunch of mistakes this year in handling him.

Ehh, I guess I just don't see talking to the press as necessary to DLo being professional. I think the vast majority of these pre and post-game media sessions are pretty useless and rarely result in new/interesting information. I also don't think other teams really care about him not doing media sessions if they're thinking about trading for him, he's a known commodity at this point and you're probably trading for him to get off bad money or get the attached draft capital rather than losing your guy for nothing.

Abeer's point is a good one; DLo's skillset is really important to this team. Having another guy that can spot up, shoot off the dribble at make some plays for others next to LeBron/AD/Reaves is crucial. It's just about consistency and defensive viability with DLo, which is why we brought in Vincent. We could reap the benefits of DLo's good/average games, and if DLo is off we can plug in a steadier but less dynamic option in Vincent.

Media availability is actually part of the NBA players contract. That’s why they can get fined by the league if they don’t participate. Whether we get new information or not is besides the point.

I believe it’s boilerplate wording in all NBA contracts and part of trying to grow the sport. Bench players can have great games too and the NBA wants to capitalize on them.

For sure, I just personally don't hold it against guys if they don't want to talk to the media. Especially in situations like this where the journalists and podcasters are saying every day that this guy needs to be traded because he's not good enough, and then ask the guy in front of cameras how they feel about "rumors" he'll be traded. It's not something I care about but I totally get why others think its an important part of the job.

yep. LT's point is good, too. the only reason they want to talk to dlo is to bait him into saying something dumb, imo. would it be better for his image if he sheed stonewalled them? i could see that, but i think it would be considered equally unprofessional.

did people have a lot to say when lebron skipped out after another loss and a bad performance recently? feel like it was mostly "lebron's pissed. as he should be. he wants something done."

I actually think sports writers did give Bron crap when he skipped out on interviews. I know some fans here certainly did and for one of them it’s his favorite player :LLLLLebronlaughing:

I’ve been rooting for Dlo this year. But ultimately I think he’s gone as he just hasn’t developed that consistency he needs for us. I also think that for whatever reason he’s fallen out of favor with Ham and Lebron (don’t think the FO ever felt he’d be here long term either). Still I’m not in favor of benching him and as long as he’s here he should start. I do think he gets moved before the deadline, though.

i'm fine with this. i agree with most that dlo is dlo, and it's not changing much. but we knew who he was when we signed him, and i think he's actually more than held up his end of the bargain, tbh.

D'Angelo just got off on the wrong foot, with Lebron right out of the gate IMO.

He made some odd comments, starting with the .."We just need to go out, play loose, and have fun" stuff. Exact same thing Westbrook said, that supposedly, Lebron had a problem with.

Then when LeBron was getting ready to come back, he said the team was playing well, but it was going to be a challenge with Lebron coming back, because Lebron goes out and does his own thing a lot. You need to adjust to Lebron, might be a problem?

    Then it was..

" I'm not a PG on this team, I'm just a basketball player" after James was back. OK.

Not a big deal, if he's still knocking down shots. Along the way in the playoffs, that became an issue. I thought it was some not so subtle shade, that Lebron sent his way after game 4 against Denver.

" Yeah, we made a little run, got to the Conference Finals and all, but this isn't my idea of success". Then James makes the comment about guys needing to take that next step up. Who do you think he was talking about? D'Angelo

Russell said that the season was a rousing success, in his opinion, and that he didn't feel like he needed to change up much in his game, at all over the summer.

Gotta get on the same page with Lebron if you want to stick around here. Or consistently make plays, and knock down shots. Kyrie could say whatever he wanted in Cleveland, because he did exactly that. Time is running out on D'Angelo IMO, unless he goes all nuclear for a couple of weeks.

At face value, it would seem that Prince and Reaves are really the problem.

Prince is over used and initially was the teams poa defender to start the year. He was getting cooked then but has been better lately as long as he's playing with another main perimeter defender.

Reaves is the golden boy here but his defense is awful and his three ball has disappeared. I still trust him over Dlo in clutch moments on offense though. He hit a big 3 when we were down at the end of the 4th. He also was huge in the playoffs. I trusted his decision making more than Lebron's last year in the playoffs, though Lebron has improved this year.
