Is it possible that he's relying so much on jumpers because we have a squad full of guys that need to be near the rim to be effective? I don't think this is a Pau situation.
Do not want him back at 9 mil. For 5 to 6 mil we can have Ed Davis and Tarik Black back to give us everything Hill used to. Yes, Black is a small sample size, but he's worth his low, low price, and Davis is what Hill was a few years ago, all hustle.
That last contract officially makes us even with J Hill for the MDA experience. I agree that we put our time and cap into Davis or Black who have potential to grow. Hill's shooting jumpers has been the stuff of many jokes this year. He is shooting like he is on a MDA team. What is worse his jumpers like Wesley's have no respect for my blood pressure. Jordan Hill has become the garbage man who wont get his hands dirty, and while he has put up some numbers, he fails the eye test, especially with his average defense and poor choices playing help D. I feel he will only get worse, just like Jason Kapano by the time he finally got here, he was a three point specialist who couldn't get 3's or make up for his inadequacies. And I know somebody will sign him. I like the guy but please......don't do it Mitch. And I am kinda Sacred out right now too, if that is not a word, it is now scrabble fans.
That report is so, so, inaccurate. It's worked for years this way; at the end of the season, Mitch and Jim have the exit interviews; then they sit down with Byron to discuss each one of the players. We're not even at the end of the season. During the season, there is no 'leaning'...
He's been the main big on the worst Laker team in history. 9mil ...have to be crazy stupid to pick up his option. Use that 9mil to keep Davis, Ellington, Brown and Black. That may be close to all it takes for those 4....Davis 5-6 mil, Black and Brown 1 mil each, and Ellington 3 mil
For me, it's fairly simple: keep Tarik, Keep Ed, draft big if possible (if not, draft a legit wing), let Hill go.
So even if we end up WANTING Jordan Hill after all this... we'll have to get in a bidding war for him and overpay... I like Jordan but wow it's going to be an incredible disappointment if he even wants to return at this point.
Clearly back in April you did not understand the actual, incredible complexity plus prohibitive salary demand that would be coming from Ed, in your "fairly simple" assessment. That's why it's best to let the "professionals" take care of business and not an armchair GM.
Yup. Shame on me. Fortunately, our FO, in their infinite wisdom did not draft a big (although Russ will most likely be a good player), which they compensated for by letting Ed (who loved to play for us) go and not getting any other big to replace him. This situation is interesting because now we really need two bigs, right? That's easy - resign Robert Shaqre, who is going to dominate the league and is worth two regular big men. At least they listened to me and got a capable wing to play the SF position, while... Uh... Wait, what?!
There are lots of solid white guys left to fill out the roster with good fundamentals and reasonable contracts. Either by FA or trade. No fear, but also no delusions. This will be a fun but non competitive year-- barring some serious wand action. Unfortunately, it's not being reported, but this happened to Mitch.
I believe Hill will be back, with a contract similar to Ed Davis (20 mil, 3 years). If he's back to the hustle guy who eats the offensive glass and gets you put-back baskets, then yes. If he's the version that falls in love with shooting 15 ft jumpshots, then
