Great interview, Rondo is one of the best.
That 'outcoach' stuff is out of this world. What a savant. Wondering how he'll fare as a HC

 

Depends on the players personnalities he would coach .

I don't think he would get along well at all with crybabies but he would be good with the tough minded players and the young ones who like learning .

 

Aside from Playoff Rondo, this was my favorite contribution he made to the Lakers (runner up to that GW vs Boston)

i really liked ingram. he can come back whenever he wants.

 

He sure had his problems with team USA. Almost seemed like there hadn’t been any progress since we had him which can’t be true. And he wasn’t very good on D?

 

Seemed odd that he didn't fit well with that team. Possibly too focused on 1 on 1 play?

 

i think the biggest surprise to me about ingram is that he hasn't become a good defender. i think he's not super sharp in terms of hoop iq, which might explain both his defensive issues and his difficulties in facilitating. he's still really good, though.

 

watching a documentary about him long ago, it seemed he ate lived breathed basketball. Kind of think of those guys as having better IQ than others, but I guess I was wrong. Also might be mixing him up with someone else. But for sure he's known for being willing to put in the work. But the guys who are super successful have that little difference from everyone else. But you are so right. With his build and abilities, how does he not make a name on the defensive side of the ball for himself?

 

I never liked Ingram much. Not dislike but just never got into me.
He does lack ball IQ and his game is not very versatile. He has an awesome build and could be a mini Durant but he's far from it. Just not a winner, there's a ton of guys like that, it's a skill and many don't have it

 

Interesting note from Aaron Larsuel on Irwin's pod today regarding Rondo: they were discussing the various assault allegations with Bridges and Porter and Chuck asking Silver about it on Inside. Larsuel brought up that apparently we were going to interview Rondo for the HC spot but canceled the interview due to the allegations against him.

Find it a little hypocritical considering Kidd, but maybe/hopefully we learned and evolved.

If it was just the previous thing...maybe. We have Kidd and had Griffin as HCs, but he's adding to the wrong sheet.

 

i think you can be crazy about playing and still not be great at the kinds of pattern recognition it takes to win, just like you can be kinda meh about playing and just sort of have a natural feel for where bodies and the ball are going. and i think this kind of thing can be built, but some folks (e.g., kidd, magic, lebron, etc.) have a huge head start that is basically impossible to catch for normal folks, and some guys start with a deficit.

iow: dedication and practice are one thing, hoop iq is another, independent thing.

 

Yeah, he has pretty much kissed a future related to the NBA goodbye. Doesn't sounds like he's transitioning well either.

 

Rondo has a little thug in him for sure.

Seriously, hire Rondo. I don't even understand the hesitation. Ham will get over it.
