Eighth team is a charm right? lol. In all seriousness, ultimately I get us rolling the dice with him. He will get an opportunity to succeed here. He's just got to capitalize on it. Skills are there on offense. Get in the lab and dedicate himself on defense and we could have a real steal on our hands.
Also this season is MORE critical for Wood than the Lakers in a lot of ways: his contract makes him expendable and C is the least valuable position in the NBA. The Lakers have their Big3 and core roleplayers set w/ or w/o Wood. But if Wood can't succeed in LA with a talented roster, Lebron/AD, and a player's coach in Ham this is the end of the money train for him. For the Lakers, it's a win a win. He's not AD/JJJ on defense but he's also not Thomas Bryant. When the Lakers played Dallas when he was healthy he was a key cog for them and the second-best player on the Mavs both on offense and defense. The dude has a 7'3" wingspan and I can't believe more people aren't at least intrigued to see what will happen when you add that to AD's 7'6" wingspan and a huge SF on top of that (Rui, Vando, Lebron pick your poison). Yes would I like Bubble Dwight over him absolutely but Bubble Dwight isn't around anywhere that was a unique situation where a HOF player still had a lot left in the tank. But I'll say again this is a different but another unique situation and opportunity: a late bloomer who due to some things in his control (didn't have the best attitude, particularly on the Rockets once they decided to tank) and out of his control (got hurt last year, Houston signing him and then jettisoning Harden and trying to win) is available to a team which should not be able to acquire a talent like this. He's in his prime, has no major injury concerns, has every motivation to do well, and his skillset/size matches what the Lakers need and the modern NBA game to a tee. Before the weirdness in Dallas and the Harden trade, he averaged 21 and 10 on 38% 3 pt shooting for a team that was trying to win. Talent wise he's the only Laker outside of AD/Lebron/Reaves who the other team will have to take significant time to gameplan for. This isn't Detroit getting Rasheed but it is like in the 80's when the Lakers got Mychal Thompson or in 00's when Boston picked PJ Brown off the scrap heap
Who is hiding from their detractors around here? That seems like a pretty disparaging remark to make about the MAJORITY, as you claim, of posters on this site??!! If that is how you feel about the people around here, why are you here?
Maybe the wusses that put people on ignore? 4 of you talking about it last 2 days. Just a “guess” and TOTALLY just teasing.
Its fun to have people on the ignore list... then it looks like you or abeer arguing with yourselves and its even more entertaining!
Guess you weren’t here for the season and a half of Russ’s brain farts on off ball defense and same lack of common decency(??) from “most all” of the forum, none of us knowing him personally but coming to the same conclusion. And except for Slick who for that same year and a half excused ALL of the Russ torture, defense AND offense, because of LeBron and AD not playing a whole lot of games together. Really don’t get this whole take.
I find it cowardly to say something about a man you would never say to their face.that’s the whole take
You can say Russ’s play looks absolutely dumb to a high % of the time without calling him a dumb player, but if it’s someone’s opinion on a sports message board after witnessing how someone plays … so what? Welcome to sports and welcome to life. Fine you feel that way and never a disparaging word about a player’s crappy performance or smarts out there …. until you’re ready to go find the dude and get punched in the mouth. But you’re really on a high horse for taking others to task for common observational comments. IMO
I have no problem with common observational comments.Calling someone dumb is a personal comment and we all know that there isn’t a coach ,team mate ,announcer, trainer or ball boy who would openly say that about a player unless they were willing to suffer the repercussions and consequences. If you are not willing to suffer those you shouldn’t be saying them. It’s a cowards way.So yes common decency You claim I’m on a high horse I believe in character and respect
And world peace? Believe all YOU want. Best you stay clear of Game Time. Dumb plays happen. When it’s an ongoing pattern and hurting the team the comments are going to start focusing on the player. It runs hot in there.
