Anthony Davis Discussion: Only Player On Both All NBA + All Def

offensively, AD's face up/drive game is vastly superior to either of those guys, too. people forget he averaged 28 as a primary option. he's not as good in the low post as either, mostly due to strength in the base (either of those two can just set up shop physically). but to me, AD's achilles's heel on offense is that he's still a meh-at-best passer (same with embiid). so you can double him and not get murdered. you can't double jokic without him finding THE most optimal pass. it's just devastating.

lebron SHOULD be like that, btw, as even at his age, anyone he can't post, he can drive by. he just doesn't seem to want to play that way (prefers to be luka).

anyway, AD can also drive by anyone he can't post; he just can't be trusted to make great passes when doubled.

ironically, had he stayed in NO as the center point of the offense, he might have learned like duncan did in SA to become a more proficient passer out of doubles (though TD never really became great there, either--SA just schemed around it and had nice-fitting personnel). of course, he'd be ringless, too.

AD will never be mvp because the press hates him, though, so none of it matters. he can't even get in the dpoy discussions despite him being the nba's most valuable defensive player for years running.

I think that AD has plenty to win MVP. The biggest hold up right now is that Lebron is on the team and all the focus is always on Lebron. If Lebron doesn't play too many more seasons AD has a decent shot at it. With all our young talent developing when Lebron finally does retire we may make a jump ahead not back. Will make AD look pretty darn good.

 

what other player of his stature gets as many potshots and gets left out of pretty much any conversation about top players?

he committed the cardinal sin of wanting to be a laker, and they'll never forget it. the ring probably did more harm than good in this regard, too.

bingo! jjj got dpoy by playing 63 games to AD's 56 (and fewer total minutes overall). btw, jjj has topped 60 games just twice in 5 years. he's definitely not glass, though.

embiid's healthiest two seasons were 68 and 66 games.

these things matter when people talk about AD and not when they talk about others. this was my point.

most players openly admit to their bias, but Jokic has been proving all of the doubters wrong. So whether it’s because he’s a foreigner or a pale skin, he is a better player than AD currently. But it feels like KG is being optimistic here. I don’t see an MVP in AD’s future.

his arms look bigger. i'm not sure that's what he needs, but it's better than eating cheetos all day.

 

I have never seen him that lean and round in the shoulders. His shoulders are starting to look like Dwight Howard's shoulders in his prime.

As much crap as I've given him in the past (Deserved IMHO), to see him putting in the work vs admit to inactivity for months at a time is highly encouraging.

When AD is focused, healthy, and in shape, he is an MVP candidate. I thought he ran out of gas in the playoffs and really let Lebron down.
