and we'll also get a good chance to evaluate your backup big talent for 20-60 games per year, so there's that.

Strikes me that in the last three years of his deal, when he's making 60 mil+ a year, IF IF IF he plays 60 games per year (Big IF), he'll be paid a million dollars per game. Pretty wild stuff.

not sure how suggesting that a player's propensity for injury is likely baked-in constitutes "blindly following", but ok.

the red part is what's dangerous to me, as a guy who hangs out on a message board. something that is admittedly speculation gets to be used as fact later when AD comes down on someone's foot and his injury is because he didn't train hard enough to prevent it. most (if not tall) of his injuries have zero to do with preparation. maybe the ones he's had coming off of other injuries, but again, that's really not in your control. and that's the debate. and it's important.

you may be right about zion and shaq being lazy, but that was a separate point for me. they're also both freakish large guys who were bound to be injured in any case. blake griffin and amare stoudemire are others. antonio mcdyess. big dudes who can move quickly and get off the floor get hurt. and again, as was stated after the extension, the lakers believe that AD does what's in his power to stay on the floor.

as for the discussion of why it's ok for other players to miss games...i still don't get it. durant is paid as much as AD. i don't care if he's older. he plays even less. nobody calls him mr. glass or makes fun of his availability. why not? i'm genuinely interested.

The national press certainly makes fun of Kyrie for how many games he takes off. I’m on other fan base sites because of doom and I think everyone of those players on that injury list get ragged on by their fan sites base. Does the press have nicknames for them because of injuries, maybe not but they do make fun of them for other things, like call them PG all kind of trash names when he misses shots in the playoffs and complain when Kawhi is out for another playoff series. I really think AD gets called Mr. Glass because of his reaction after what looks like a light contact. His body language is very dramatic . I don’t know if he has a light tolerance for pain or is afraid he’s going to be seriously injured or what it is. He ends up being ok and comes back in the game but you can’t constantly act like you tore an ACL and come back 2 minutes later like nothing happened and some fans not think that’s a little strange IMO.

Edit: I’m wondering whether you think AD reactions after contact is warranted or is it a bit much? I’m not talking about when he really twists his ankle or the likes of that, I’m mean when there’s contact and he’s on the floor and his body language conveys that he’s really hurt and he gets right back up like nothing happened. If you don’t view that as a bit much, that could explain why the term Mr. Glass is unfair. For the record I don’t call him that but I do believe he is injury prone.

Agreed, one of the reasons I like him so much is I am a defense first coach. I say this every year so nobody takes me seriously, but I just don't see a better team out there than ours. I believe AD is going to have one of his best seasons. Not just scoring but in leading the team and doing whatever it needs. We won the AD trade because we won a championship and when we win this season it will justify his extension. I go into each season expecting a championship and if we don't get it, I spend about two seconds thinking about it and move on to next adventure.

i think he falls down a lot (some of it on purpose); i guess i don't read too much into whether it's over the top or not. if he comes back to play, he's ok. if he doesn't, he's not. coming back to play after an injury doesn't have to mean you're weak...it could mean the opposite.

I”I want to lead” = “I want to get paid max dollars”

sorry, wish I could be 100% positive on the massive extension, bu I feel like we’re lucky if he ends up playing 50% of the games through 2028. Love to be wrong.

Yes, ready to root for him at a moment's notice. Cautiously optimistic.

Ex-players man: sometime it feels they just make stuff up from ESPN highlights

I'd argue that Ad cannot do everything Joker can do (embiid another story) but at the same neither of those guys can do what AD does on defense either. They are very different players and yes I do think AD is talented enough to be an MVP but he's got to do thing better that he can actually get better at and not be something he's not.

To break it down, AD simply has never been and will not be the playmaker Jokic is: just doesn't have anywhere close to the vision, touch or timing to act like a PG. OTOH Joker and neither can Embiid be an all time defensive player like AD who can switch 1-5 and basically take whole segments of the playbook away from an other team with his ability to play 1v1, rim protect and rotate.

The one thing AD can match Joker is the shooting: Jokic is a much better shooter than AD now. In the bubble, AD shot more 3's than Jokic! I do think if AD wants to become an MVP which he can, the shooting has to come back. For the Lakers I still think they can win the title without it but for AD to win an MVP he's got to round his offensive game which happened in the bubble
