when it came down to charlotte/spurs, i was really pulling for the hornets, who haven't really had a shot a generational talent since back in the mourning/larry johnson days. spurs have had multiple shots. huge for them, though, as their franchise was about to be over, too.
Honestly I’m glad Wemby is ending up in San Antonio. Always been a fan of Pop, so I’m glad this will give him some motivation to stick around. There are a lot of historic great players around that organization, including players loved internationally and in France, that should be able to provide him some good mentorship. Plus some of my best friends recently moved to SA, so this may give even more motivation to go visit them! And I know Spurs have historically lucked out in the draft, but I still think they deserve it more than the alternatives. Houston’s owner is a scumbag, Charlotte is cheap, and the Blazers have squandered Dame’s prime. Although it would have been interesting to see the Blazers get the pick just to see how they’d handle it. I’d imagine it would have pushed them to trade Dame and rebuild, but would have been crazy if they started to field trade offers for the pick to try one last ditch effort to put a contender around Dame. Doing so would have been a mistake, but I would be curious to see what the Wemby pick could fetch in a trade. I’d imagine it would be a LOT. Also while it’s convenient for the Spurs to land Wemby, I don’t buy into the conspiracy talk. Nowadays the lottery is done with full transparency with all teams present to witness it, and I’m pretty sure it’s handled by a third party with a lot of legal liability to get it right.
That all makes way too much sense and is well written and interesting about your preferences. I prefer the conspiracy angles though.
My only complaint is Spurs being rewarded for some egregious tanking. Sometimes sitting their entire rotation or making up injuries throughout the season.
Spurs invented resting players, cried about us getting Pau, Pop sucked as team USA coach, they encouraged Bowen to play dirty, i say f***'em, hope Wemby bolts the first chance he gets.
i don't like the spurs getting it because i was interested in how their supposedly great culture was going to stand up without tim duncan on the floor. imo, they talked a big game for years about how they were just a superior organization, but i always thought it was mostly just tim duncan is an easy superstar to have. i feel the same about gs and all their holier-than-thou bs, too. it's curry. i felt like SA was floundering post-duncan, and all their talk was going to be revealed as just that. winning the wemby lotto will obfuscate the issue.
Going to have to start going to the strip club during lunchtime in the middle of the week at this rate.
This is what I think and they have now pulled it off, against all odds, 3 times!!! Robinson, Duncan and now Wembanyama. I think it sucks!

I don't think Pop is around for more than 1 year. He's a lifer that probably wants a life beyond coaching. But if he did stick around and they could build a decent squad around the new kid, that would be great.
wasn't sure which thread to put this in, but i wanted to note that miami's starting back court are both free agents. i think strus is a reaves case (arenas rights?), and vincent is fully unrestricted but with full bird rights. why does this matter? well...miami's already committed to 173 million next year--WITHOUT THEIR SALARIES. so you can pretty much book another 25 million (probably more?) to put them near 200 million in salaries. what does this mean? well, two things. first, pat riley is going to pay victor oladipo under the table to decline his player option. pat riley has done such illegal things before (anthony carter), and the league has looked the other way. but past that, they're going to either move herro for not much or pay someone to take robinson or lowry. or they're going to lose one of their starting guards who have played the bulk of their playoff minutes. the other interesting thing about it is that these two guards basically sucked during the regular season! they're like the anti-dlo! anyway, just a situation to watch. long and short of it is that, much like denver (bruce brown has a player option and they have basically no rights to him) they better win the ring this year because i think the future isn't as rosy.

I posted elsewhere that I would totally take Robinson while stealing Martin in a trade for DLo. He’s an excellent two way wing that has been their second best player throughout this run. He also is quick enough on D to play down a position at the 2. Duncan’s last year( in three seasons) is only partially guaranteed at $10 mill). Reaves Martin LeBron AD (Lopez, Naz, Bamba, other?)
