i think he will. i expect reaves and max to be our primary sgs next year, tbh. but injuries happen, so having insurance with experience in the system would be great, imo.

I almost guarantee this will happen: it's the Buss family they aren't going to throw money around when they have a cheap contract and I'm hoping significantly more upside player being groomed for the same spot.

Still makes sense to use the option on Beasley and Bamba though for a trade.

Hit from 3 or get off the pot: Lonnie's up after Malik and Troy had their shots and didn't impress.

At this point in the season, it's probably mostly a head trip: stay cool and hit some shots and you'll get mins while the other two wait their chance.

Brown was constantly getting lost on D as pointed out by Stan Van Gundy in the Game 2 broadcast. Walker gave more than just effort.

Forgive me for getting off of the subject here a bit but...Shaq Harrison is worth a vet min next season too IMO. 6'4 avg 9 pts 6 assists and 4 rebs. Defense is reputed to be his specialty. Not a bad prospect for our bench next season. I like our mix of young guard talent as is. If Rob somehow convinced Lonnie and Dennis to split the MLE? We have some possibilities

So what you think we are going to do with these two drafts we have this summer?

He doesn’t need to convince them to split it, we can give Lonnie a slight raise on his current contract and we can give DS the mMLE. Both would be earning about 7m. I think that’s a better spend than bringing Beasley back for 15m personally.

Right..I keep thinking about Lonnie as a min signing for some reason. Malik could still be useful in a S&T..

If we were Golden State or the Clippers, we bring everyone back and package them for what we need. But we haven’t operated like that and until we do so, I just don’t believe we will. I think we let Beasley go and maybe Bamba too. Which would be a shame. It means the salary slot of THT would disappear and Caruso was let go for nothing.

Playing defense is first deciding you are willing to do it, then players can learn how. It is amazing when playing time has been taken how much more willing players are to put out effort on defense when given the opportunity. Props to Lonnie.

I have more faith in Jeannie..Lebron only has two seasons left...the tittle contention window is short. I think she's going to go all in, to get one more ring out of Lebron. She doesn't have Balmer type of money, but she isn't exactly a pauper either, the Lakers are worth 5.5 Billion, 3rd most valuable franchise in the NBA, 10th most valuable sports franchise in the world. It's the Championships, she wants more of them IMO.

Worth doesn't mean much when you don't have the cashflow of other teams. We shouldn't complain too much though. Our payroll is still in the top quarter of the league. Although next year we run the risk of falling outside the top 10 depending on who teams bring back.

Team. This Year Likely Next Year
    1. LA Clippers $192,905,421 - $210,000,000
    2. Golden State $192,386,134 - $215,000,000
    3. Milwaukee $181,851,291 - $192,000,000
    4. Boston $177,570,808 - $177,000,000
    5. Dallas $177,244,238 - $170,000,000
    6. Phoenix $176,042,453 - $190,000,000
    7. LA Lakers $169,391,473 - $170,000,000
    8. Denver $161,338,665 - $172,000,000
    13. Miami $151,408,266 - $183,000,000
    14. Toronto $151,217,313 - $170,000,000
    15. Philadelphia $150,496,913 - $170,000,000
    16. Atlanta $149,836,313 - $170,000,000

not s&t, as his contract is just a team option. we can pick up the option and trade him, but as svtzr said, that would be a departure from how we've operated. i've said many times that i could see beasley or bamba or both moved with the pick to bring in a cheaper player we like.

here's an example (i don't like it, but something like it): bamba/beasley/17th pick to indy, hield/26th pick and 5 million in savings to us. i think the real version of such a deal would involve larger savings, though, as we could just shed either contract without losing the pick or dropping down.

edit: another similar thing--bamba/beasley to dallas for kleber/bullock/future 2nds. again, we save about 5 million (as opposed to just keeping those guys). downside is kleber's on a long-term deal and is getting injury prone. nice fits here, though.

i think we're trading it; that would be my bet. either down or completely out. maybe even for a future 1st. if we keep it, i think we'll go BPA because nobody we pick at 17 is going to crack our rotation. which is great. it means we're good again.

Not to change the subject but I think Lonnie will get another chance out there tonight. Ham usually rewards guys when they play well and I anticipate Lonnie gets the call tonight off the bench over Beas.

Lonnie showed some good effort on D and his versatility on offense is a nice weapon vs GS.

I highly disagree with this. We should complain A LOT. All Lakers fans should. The Busses are doing a huge disservice to fans and the team. Top quarter is a pathetic benchmark for the Los Angeles Lakers. For places like Phoenix, Dallas, Milwaukee, Clippers to outspend the Lakers while the Lakers cheap out on things like the Caruso contract is atrocious. Ownership could get the cashflow in other ways than by hurting the team's chances of success, and they are actually costing themselves money in the long run by cheaping out on short term things instead of doing whatever they can to maximize the success of the team.

Lonnie played very well - happy to see him out there and it was a bold move by HAM.

I wouldn't mind bringing Lonnie back either if we lose a few guys...he's a good depth piece and he plays well in our system. He's also still only 24 years old.

I think more than likely Lakers are going to pick up that option on Beasley, and they should because if you don't, you don't actually open up $16M in cap space because we're over the cap. We should be using Beasley/Bamba expiring deals along with 17th pick to net us a better player and add to our existing core of LeBron/AD/DLO/Reaves/Rui/Vando.

The issue as always is the repeater tax. Picking up Beasley carries a huge multiplier.

At $215m in payroll, Golden State will have an additional $268m in tax for a total bill of $483m. I don’t care who you are but spending $200m+ on tax is just going to bankrupt you.

So I’m fine with staying slightly above the tax threshold and being creative in constructing a team. Or even trying to get below the tax line every couple of years to get away from the repeater tax. This stuff ain’t no joke.

Two questions...1. What's the salary cap and tax apron for next season? I know both increased some.
    2. When does this increased penalty for being above the tax apron, that's in the new CBA kick in? I understand that it will be phased in over time.

I saw Woj on ESPN talking about how teams with the high payrolls better get a chip within the next couple of seasons, because the new CBA is a game changer.
