the video explained why the bone is important, but not why playing two nights in a row with a minutes restriction is worse than, say, playing 38 minutes in two games with a single day of rest between.

is there something to the extra few hours off the foot?

I think that's what he's getting at. Not a doctor of course, but my take is that there will be soreness with the foot after the first game of the back to back regardless of the minutes due to just jumping, landing, etc.

So they rest him on the second night to keep that from being worse and/or reaggravating the injury....

    ...I think.

Klapper's an orthopedic surgeon so I'm not going to pretend I understand how the foot works more than him. lol.

If he elaborates I'll post that too.

Although I fully understand Dr. Klapper's explanation... "He'll be ready for the Playoffs" doesn't mean anything if we don't make the Playoffs.

Kobe will probably remain my favorite player forever and as much as I admire him for it, he was wrong to play through all those injuries. He cut his career short by doing that. I personally don't want our current franchise player to make the same mistake just to prove he's tugh or not lazy (which is BTW a beyond ridiculous accusation). Making the play-offs but worsening his injury in the process and missing him for it either way also doesnt make ANY sense.

yeah, kobe busted an achilles trying to will a lame team to the layoffs and the rest of his career (and thus the next few years of laker basketball) was basically ruined. it's why lebron's not playing, and it's why AD is still sitting back to backs, imo. jeanie was around for that.

our ceiling is probably a spirited first round exit this year in any case. let's do our best not to ruin next year and hope the pelicans lose enough that we retain our pick.

It's a tough decision and I'm glad it's not mine to make. Personally I would rather be safe than sorry regarding AD though. He just has too many concerns injury wise. I don't think it's smart to take chances. I might feel different about the last back to back game though.

While I didn't like losing the game to the Rockets by sitting AD, the loss falls on the FO so ultimately they don't get to complain if it impacts whether or not we get into the playoffs/playin. Ultimately I'm ok with that. Our guys still should have been able to pull out a victory against one of the worst teams in the league and AD helped us get the more important win against NO. It's also on the FO for not picking up Huff's contract. He would have been a perfect third center all season long actually. We could have used him during AD's injury absence as well as now. No good reason at all not to have signed him that I can see.

Also our crappy record is in large part due to the FO's decision to punt on the season until the deadline instead of making moves like this in the summer. The roster was awful for 2/3 of the season. They knew the gamble they were taking of a potential wasted year.

I still think we make it in to the playin because of the deadline trades and I do think we have a great squad to potentially work with next year and beyond. So I'm not complaining too hard on this either. While we sacrificed most of this season we are in a very good position going forward. AD and Lebron's injuries once again derailed us a bit this year. Hopefully next year we can have less of that or at least a team that can work around it better.

had we made a trade earlier, we'd be 6-8 seed instead of 8-11, but been in MUCH worse position for next year and (especially) beyond.

not to mention that the timing of lebron's injury would have been hugely problematic in any case, too.

the moves were made with next year in mind, and i think that was the right play, as is being cautious with AD. honestly, if lebron thought we were a threat to win a ring this year, he'd be on the court right now, imo.

Rockets game is a perfect example on how you manage to have a successful team with AD on it.
You MUST have backup for the games he miss. He will always miss 15-25 games a year (in a healthy year) and you need to have guys who makes his absence less felt. That's why TB was important. It would be nice to get him back next year

To me it all depends on the trade. If we had this team we’d be top 3 in the west. But of course that trade wasn’t available then.

Bottom line for me is I’m very happy with the team we have now and it’s water under the bridge. And I’m good with being cautious with AD. As I said the final back to back may be a different story though. Depending on the standings at that point it could be important for us to win and risk playing AD. Or it may not matter. We shall see.

Screw you AD. Hope you f***ing retire this very moment, you heartless piece of human waste.

Trade his behind, buy him out. I don't care. If we are building around him, I am done.

He didn’t even try for 2 straight quarters, then he shows up finally, and then he fouls a three point shooter, missed a clutch free throw, and then leaves his man wide open for the win. I’m ready for the rebuild, bring it on, looking forward to the day AD moves on, he is NOT that guy.
