And it's not like it was against a bad team either. Maybe now they get 5 first rounders for him this summer instead of 4. I wonder, can he be your #2 guy? He can't be a #1, but can he be the team's second option on offense? If he continues to put up big numbers, that might change the type of offers they get for him this summer OR maybe they decide to keep him, already having their Robin in place.

 

i know kd is (appropriately) controversial, but i liked this candor. it really seems like he was one of the adults in the room in brooklyn, and that there were others. just not kyrie, harden, and probably tsai.

i think if tsai gets out of the way and lets marks run the team, they'll be good long term. but tsai seems to have some cuban in him, which cuts both ways. he needs to be ballmer. sign the checks and cheer.

lebron's miami move was as bad to me as kd's gs move. i just lost a ton of respect for both guys when they did those things. lebron redeemed himself a bit by going back to cleveland (though that was also sort of personally advantageous in itself) and then by taking up the mantle of delivering us from knicksville.

kd may still have that turn left in him, too. though he's running out of time.

 

creepy. and while i can't imagine anyone being super interested in that particular application, it makes one wonder what else can be done.

maybe the nba can stop bullshitting about interpreting their own rules in last two minute reports and just alter the video!

it wasn't about leaving cleveland for me; i thought he should have. it was about joining forces with TWO of the other top players in the league. that year, a prime amare stoudemire and those three were on the market. if any two of them joined up, i--and most others--would have immediately been like, ok, i get it. when they colluded to corner the market, it was just so...non-competitive. and they knew it--hence the 7 titles talk. none of them catch as much s*** as they should for that whole thing, imo. and it's the fans and media letting lebron and wade off the hook that emboldened durant to take it to the next level. i foresaw that (not what durant did, specifically), which is why i hated that miami team with the fire of a thousand suns. they sort of permanently harmed the product, imo. so while the offense was a tier lower, it's the reason the worse thing even happened, imo.

 

At the time, I didn't think anything could top Bron to Miami. That was the most egregious act against the NBA I had seen. Then KD joined the best team in the NBA which guaranteed a free ride to the 'ship. I get that wouldn't have happened if the Heat 3 didn't happen, but the Heat weren't already the best team and Bron didn't coattail ride. Wade and Bron had to figure out their balance of power.

Then Bron went on his redemption tour. Going back to Cleveland. Then going to an empty cupboard in LA. Whereas KD doubled down and tripled down on his super team approach. It's disgusting and pathetic. In doing so, Bron hasn't damaged his legacy, whereas I don't think there's a better player who, rightfully so, has torpedoed his legacy more than Durant.

 

Bron "designed and built" his superteam. KD joins bonafide contenders. Dude is a p****.

 

We were robbed.

I hate Bron never entered and teased will he/won't he for over a decade. I get it for him, he had nothing to win by doing it. But still hated that he ducked that.

 

THAT would have been the dunk contest to end all dunk contests... we were robbed indeed

 

VC would have won by a landslide... if the judges knew what they were doing

 

vince carter's the best dunker i've ever seen. mj, dr. j, and even nique have arguments, but it's not really even close for me.

there's no artistry to the dunk contest anymore, but part of that is that the real artists require some truly rare physical gifts. carter's and mj's dunks were absolutely balletic. mesmerizing stuff, like olympic gymnasts pushing the limits. now we've got props and stuff. that's not what it's about.

 

Those guys are on Mt Rushmore for sure. A tier below, I really liked J-Rich's win. I don't think that performance gets enough love.

The LaVine vs. Gordon showdown was probably the best thing we've had recently. Last year's was really bad. I think the problem is it's tough to come up with new stuff each year. If they did it every 4-5 years instead, it'd be a much bigger spectacle. That'll never happen because it's the draw of All-Star Saturday.



Impressive win tonight by McClung. Congrats to the former Laker. I appreciate the readiness of all 4 participants. Most of the dunks were in the first try. The multiple misses can really suck the energy out of the building
