i could live with the others if this wasn't the case. teams with poor personnel can be induced to play passable defense. being in the bottom of the league is on leadership--coach and players (looking hard at lebron here, too, tbh). i honestly think vogel was happy to be fired once he realized lebron was done playing defense. he knew he couldn't win. and ham's personality can't overcome that, either. i do think he can make other decisions to mitigate that, though. anyway, let's give him this roster on opening day next year and see what happens. if he can't conjure 50 wins out of it, fired.
This is pretty much what I think. There have been a bunch of problems with this team for a couple of years now and I guarantee you they are not all Ham's fault. That being said, he now has some good and balanced players, if he can't make it work by the end of the season, eat his salary and send him on his way. Personally, I think Vogel would do well with some of these guys.
The 3 blocks were nice.. Overall, he looked like he was forcing things the entire game though.. 0-5 from three is an odd 1st game for a backup Center.. o_O
3 blocks in 16 minutes. Hopefully getting to watch AD play D every night will make him even more effective as a shot disrupter.
0-5 oof, if he hits his normal clip, that really is a difference maker. Glad to see he isn't gun shy hahahahaa
the first couple shots looked good, then it got worse. the fouls were sort of insane; he's been in the league too long to be going for those fakes. some highlight blocks and a vicious dunk. really mixed bag. sorta like bryant.
He had some great looks early on. With 2 threes, he could have had 12/6/3 blocks, but the shot didn't fall. A couple of them really just rimmed out. He's going to be OK as a backup center in limited minutes, but he has to stop fouling. I mean, he has less than 3 fouls a game in his career on average, so I think he was just nervous.
Just gotta cool it on the fouls a bit and even when the shot isn't falling he is still useful. The overall defense might not be great, but those blocks get the crowd/team going.
I'll attribute the fouls to first game excitements, he barely got playing time on a big-heavy Magic team. Though as much as I like him, 12-15 mins a game as the back up 5 is probably where his role is.
Liked the blocks and rim protection. I think the fouls were jitters and some of the 3 ball misses can be chalked up to rust from not playing the past 4. Needs to correct it quickly though.
I think they’re just giving him a chance but he should not play over Wenyen unless they’re battling Gobert and other giants
