As I said before, nobody is taking Russ.
    Worst trade in Laker history.

Meh...Market? Russell Westbrook is on a 47 million dollar expiring contract. Why would anybody give up 47 million dollars in assets, for a guy that going to be an UFA this summer? That's a totally ridiculously idea, unless you have a disgruntled max caliber player that wants out somewhere. Other than that, all you are getting back is terrible contracts, at the price of giving up draft picks too. It never made any sense whatsoever.

It " might be" 5 guys in the NBA right now, truly worth 47 million dollars. Lol..anybody interested in Russ can have him for a huge discount over the summer, Lakers fans seem to be only thinking about our side of the equation, not how truly silly it would be for another team to pull that trigger. Unless 1 or 2 above was the scenario, and number 2 is not in our best interest in the 1st place.

SMH...Keep hope alive I guess, they should have snatched up Kyrie IMO. SOMEBODY might just be lurking in the shadows tho...we'll see.

You’re only getting back bad contracts for Russ as a 47m expiring. Who actually fits that bill?

If you want anyone good you’re giving up 1-2 first round picks. And our M.O. is: we aren’t sending those picks unless it makes us a contender.

We just can’t seem to find that deal out there.

you're getting unwanted contracts, which may not be bad. some thought dinwiddie's contract was bad when he came to dallas, but that wasn't true. sometimes moving situations does wonders for players.

but generally yes, we'd either have to eat some legit bad salary or add picks to get guys who move the needle, talent-wise. that's been the case the whole time and is generally the case with expiring deals. but the mavs moved expirings and a late 1st for wood over the summer. we traded lou williams (who was still productive for a few years after) for expiring money and a late first. sometimes you just have to find the right seller.

We need more than that to give up both picks.

Looking for Tim's quote or soundbite, because that's an absurd offer. Maybe. Maybe that's an initial starting point from Utah. But been talking with them awhile now, we should be past that.

Found it and it wasn't exactly aggregated correctly

There would be more involved. But even then, after Shams report yesterday (one 1st for their guys), this one is a bad deal.

doesn't say anything about protections or picks coming back. remember the hold up in the summer talks was we wanted a pick coming back.

what if, say, one of our picks is top-5 protected, and they send us something back. they own minny and cleveland's picks forever, so maybe there's some convoluted swap situation possible, too. it's possible rob is just trying to make sure we have picks to trade going forward.

for example, the conditions of the deal are that the jazz have full swap rights (we get the least of the three picks they own) in 2027 and top-5 protected swap rights in 2029. in this case, utah is really ensuring that they're likely to end up with something good in those years, while we retain the flexibility to trade picks going forward.

edit: i'm a little concerned that this will be conley's last good year, though. and beasley isn't enough to move the needle. clarkson and vanderbilt with conley. hell, olynyk would actually be a great fit here, imo--ham would love him.

in this order for me, probably:

    conley/olynyk/vanderbilt
    conley/jc/vanderbilt
    conley/beasley/vanderbilt

all those deals save money on the tax this year, too.

we could sub vanderbilt out for a higher-salaried player, but i don't think that would interest jeanie. also, the latest rumblings seem to indicate that vanderbilt's not part of their plans.

I don’t know man it’s hard to get hopeful about not getting screwed in any deal we have to do with Ainge. Even if we finally get rid of Russ and a couple of better rotation players back I have totally lost faith in Ham getting the most out of any combination of players on our roster, because he has demonstrated such inflexibility with whatever he values in Schroder and Beverly starting and defending in crunch time much bigger players. Does not make him look “smart”
    at all.

honestly, we won the THT/bev trade, despite how we felt about it at the time.

i don't like it, either. i will say that what danny has been good at is selling off parts for things that become very valuable later. that's what our picks are. but again, if it's swaps (because utah has so many picks), it's just more danny protecting his investment. he also has learned from experience that having 3 picks in the same draft is actually a bad thing.

will we end up giving them the equivalent of jayson tatum and jaylen brown? possibly. it's also possible we end up giving them mostly nothing, as happened in the much-ballyhooed nash trade.

if it's swaps like i said above, and at least one of them is protected, i'm not opposed. conley and olynyk could plug right into our rotation this year and next, and conley's expiring if he finally just gives out.

again, not my favorite, but i could see it.

i mean, if ham's the problem, i don't know what to do.

as much as i've been fine with just sitting things out--and may still be depending on what we hear about the negotiations happening right now--you have to try to set yourself up better than we are now. i really don't like the idea of heading into the summer with cap space as part of the plan.

Well … if we’re dealing with Utah they don’t want Beverly back so HE is not taken away from Ham. We have actually gotten smaller with his fetish 3 PG lineup against big wings with one better defender, Conley, replacing Russ. See me working here? ;)

Why would you give up a FRP for mediocre players and another to get rid of Westbrick, who will be bought out? Why don’t they just send him home like they should have at the start. Some sunk cost s*** from Jeannie

[IMG] feels like no matter what happens with westbrook this year, we should add this to the smilies so we never forget how bad it can actually be. the side of the backboard highlights are kind of the best
