The only young piece I'm willing to trade to please LMA and build more of a "win now" team is Randle. And that's only because LMA is going to play big minutes at PF and Kobe will have to play some SF unless Russell has a bad rookie season. I don't think Randle will see enough playing time to give him a fair shot at developing. Package Randle, Young, Kelly, Sacre and you can receive around 13M in salary I believe, or even more if we absorb some salary into our remaining 4M in cap room. I'm going to be disappointed if we can't save 4M to sign Biyombo because we won't find a better defensive C to pair with LMA, but we should be able to field a competitive team. LMA, Kobe, Russell, JC, Black, whoever we get for the Randle package, hopefully we pick up McDaniels at SF.
Something to keep in mind here. If the Spurs start losing role players left and right, at what point do prospective free agents take that into consideration?
The Spurs will be like that old reliable car with mucho mileage on it. A long drive ahead with no rest stops. Even if the driver and the mechanic are competent...well, you get the picture.
Russell's pitch to Aldridge: http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/...free-agency-dangelo-russell-lamarcus-aldridge
I keep seeing reports that the Spurs could bring back Green if they dumped this salary in trade, I don't think that is very plausible, unless Duncan/Manu are signing for < 4 million each. Parker - 13.4 Splitter - 8.5 Kawhi - 7.2 Anderson - 1.1 LMA - 18.9 Green's cap hold - 7.6 6 cap holds - 3 million Total - 59.7 If Manu/TD take that big of a pay cut, I will be thoroughly impressed and scared for LMA when it comes to his next deal. We will see where the Spurs stand with the QO for Cory Joseph (3.0) and Aron Baynes (2.6) with a cap hold of 5 million and 4 million respectively. They have to get those in by tonight.
Its not very wise to give up all their depth for LA, considering Parker and Duncan's age, plus Aldridge will miss at least 10 games too. It looks great on paper and they definitely will be a good team when healthy, but it is a risk.
Trading Clarkson, Russell or Randle would be very foolish. In a year or two they will be better than who we traded them for, maybe this year.
Same reason i wouldnt wanna gut our team for one player. We Look good but then when onw gets injured we'd be wishing we would have kept our young guns I bet lebron wish they had wiggins instead of love during the finals
Pop and the Spurs are meeting tomorrow with Aldridge..I saw this qoute from Pop... POP: DON'T WAKE ME UP FOR FREE AGENCY Don't count Gregg Popovich, 66, among those to be making calls the second free agency starts. The Spurs coach told the San Antonio Express-News: "I'm not calling anyone at midnight. I'll be in bed. And if that’s the difference in someone coming or not coming, then I don't want them.” Damn I love this dude.....He's the Boss, he don't care who you are...
The Spurs have never really one to make splashes in Free Agency, it's kind of strange to hear their name mentioned going after one. It seems most of their guys are "system" players who have a role, and do it well. Not saying LMA wouldn't perform well on the Spurs, it'll just be interesting to how it would play out if they did get him, but lost a bunch of their system players and left with no depth like last year?
