That was Vintage AD. Another like that against the Pistons would be nice.

That’s kind of an unserious offer to me. Collins is nice, but the other players are meh, and it’s 2 lottery protected picks. For AD? Come on now. Mitchell got Sexton and Markkanen, 3 unprotected first round picks and 2 pick swaps. AD is worth the same, or maybe one less unprotected first because of injury concerns.

I don't need these numbers from AD every game but I would like to see the effort every game. Then we would have something to build on. It does have to start with one game though so maybe. Not a good idea to try to diss Wilt Chamberlain in an AD thread. He was twice the player AD ever was or will be.

3 for 1 trades (Plus future draft compensation) with a full roster might be a no go.

My favorite stat of AD's for the game:
    3 pointers: 0-0
Let's keep it that way bud. Stay in your lane.

Ham wanted him to shoot, as many 3's as possible. Either he came back to his senses or AD told him to get lost.

yeah, not going for protections on those picks. nobody's allowing that from us, and we're not even asking for a superstar. reject.

not sure where you got that--i'm pointing out that literally the only player that did what everyone expects AD to do did so 50 years ago. nobody does this.

in shaq's best year ever, when he was 27, he put up 29 and 13. he put up 27 and 11 the next couple of years, then went down to 20 and 10 in the miami years.

    kg's best year, age 27, 24 and 14.

    tim duncan's best, age 25, 26 and 13.

i already put up dirk's numbers.

people have a warped sense of when and what kind of numbers bigs put up in the modern nba. even generational talents. AD put up 28 and 12 when he was 24, then moved into a lower usage role, then got hurt. otherwise, he kinda looks like other generational talents in a lot of ways.

at age 29, AD is currently at 24 and 11. td was at 19/11, kg 22/13, shaq 27/11, dirk 24/9.

    the expectations are wildly miscalibrated.

yeah, i think it's been quite clear that coaches have been asking AD to shoot threes. it reminds me of when coaches were asking pau to shoot threes around the same career stage, and it just wasn't working (note that pau eventually got decent at low-volume threes, as i think AD can--it's just not where his skills lie).

I agree expectations are crazy. Numbers alone don't mean much to me. I want constant effort and to come up big in big moments. My interpretation of your comment about Chamberlain playing against plumbers was that his numbers were inflated due to bad competition. He played against many HOF centers and against Bill Russell often. Wilt was just a different kind of cat.

wilt was a freak of nature athletically. easily one of the greatest athletes of all time. there are only a few guys from back in the day who i would confidently say could still dominate in today's NBA and wilt is one of them

The AD I want to see is the one that is the AD who is completely frightening on defense. The one that is in constant roaming mode, knocking back 4 blocks a game and being a presence on every single attempt at the rim. When he plays like that the Lakers are a completely different animal and if you combine it with an active Lebron, as in active on D and getting those assist numbers back up to 10 a game like the bubble year then we are making our presence known and only then. The rest of the roster gets an automatic increase in rating because this situation makes them all look better. That's the truth plain and simple.

Wilt was a freak. Not just athletically, but his durability was freakish. His most unbreakable record is not his 100 point game, or even averaging 50ppg for a full season (though no one will ever do that again). But averaging 48.5 minutes a game for a full season in which he played 80 games. The fewest minutes per game for his entire career was 42. He averaged over 45 minutes per game 11 times.

If I remember right he never fouled out of a game. The guy was from another planet. 55 rebounds in one game against the C Bags almost seems like a mis print...lol.

20+ years retired Wilt makes Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O'Neal look like relatively small and skinny players.

The guy really was a Goliath. He had strength, agility and even some really good basketball sense.

Another big game, kept going at the basket, scoring on floaters, layups, and then in the 4th on dunks. 38/16, 18-21 free throws, 4 blocks, 2 steals, multiple changed shots. Absolutely closed this game out for us, and guys like Walker, Russ, some others were really working to feed him the ball in good spots.
