Versatile doesn’t mean good, it just means he DID guard all those positions for those percentages. He could have been terrible within those percentages. He’ll be fine though, like Reaves he’s a glue guy and looks his best next to the stars/better players.
yeah, that's part of why i was wondering. were those intentional matchups? or just % of plays where the guy in front of him was nominally that position (which is much about scheme as the player)? anyway, he can't guard pgs and really struggles keeping smaller sgs in front of him. he's not strong enough in the base to guard centers. 3/4, i'm comfortable with him.
yeah, hopefully that bizarre experiment is over. i prefer his defense against bigger guys because he's really not that quick. the three he made he caught in total rhythm, hands up, ready to shoot. i think this is how it has to be for him. he's not going to hit a shot off a broken play or dribble into one. he's a system player. and i think he knows that and acknowledged it in the preseason. once he gets his groove and learns where his shots will be, i think he'll hit more (not 40% but a more respectable clip).
Liked his defense and energy, he knows how to cut and finish around the rim. Seems like a good locker room dude too
He's a good roleplayer and just by that better than Ariza/Bazemore/Bradly/blah we had last year. 7-8th guy on the roster who won't cost you playoff games but won't win you one either: which is a pretty good bargain
i'm comfortable playing him 15mpg at backup sf (pf against smallball teams). him, reaves (comfortable at 25-30mpg), and lonnie (20-25mpg) all seems like guys that can help you win in different ways and should be part of the rotation. wasn't expecting lonnie, but he offsets that i was expecting to trust nunn more.
Russ had that glare like he was about to say something stupid he would regret, and then boom JTA to the rescue. Damn him! I needed to hear the stupid things about to fall out of his face.
