It seems that Nunn is actually slotted with the starters right now in camp from the reports. I’m kind of shocked to say the least, but hey that’s a great thing. I’m all for it if it works and he stays healthy. That opens up some options if Russ doesn’t play D like he’s supposed to.

starting doesn't always mean the best player at the position, but sometimes the best fit for the group on the floor

Like Westbrook if he came off the bench

Might work better, but doesn't mean the starter in that case would be an actual better player.

I've been wanting Nunn and Reaves to start but it looks like Russ is coming back alive under Ham. Which I like, if true. If we have a starting line up good enough that Reaves and Bryant aren't in it we are going to be pretty good and actually have a good bench as well. Keeps everyone playing hard, get complacent someone will be taking your job. I hope people are becoming more optimistic. Nunn is a solid starter. I believe we will get consistent effort and consistent results from him. Coaches love consistency so they can actually make game plans that don't fall apart because one guy decides to mail it in on certain days.

Lonnie will get his shot..I think we are going to play all these kids early in the season. I plan on enjoying seeing them fighting for their playing time. I'm not ready to rule anyone out just yet.

This is a really good point, I think Jones is in the same ilk, and most of the time so is AD. Having 3 starters that show up on both sides of the ball every game will be crucial.

    When can he be traded?
Teams running the Wembayana tank will need some fuel and he looks like he could be an OPEC state level add on

Swear it seems like the Lakers are building up "assets" like Westbrook and Walker specifically because of this

So glad we have another ball handler in case we have a couple games this season in which Nunn, Bev, Reaves, Dennis, or Pippen all can’t play.
It was Totally worth spending all of our Mid Level money to have him.

Not a great game, but it’s unfair to judge him with 6 of our rotation pieces out. (Only Reaves, Jones, Bryant and JTA there)

Would like to see him get some game time alongside our starters to see if he has anything to add.

    I think he's rusty.

However, judging from what I read from SAS fans who watched him everyday, this is kind of what to expect most of the time.

    LOL. Prove em wrong, Lonnie

Up to this point he hasn’t been a good defender or shooter. I’m not super optimistic but I do want to give him his shot.

And the thing with his defense is it doesn't seem to be effort related. He had a couple nice effort plays including the dive last night. I just don't think he's smart enough to see the floor or to make the reads (and that goes with what SA fans have stated as well) . That limits him to a point of attack defender and that makes him redundant with Russ, Bev, and DS because they're labeled as the same role defensively.

again, i must have watched a different game than everyone else. yes, his three was bad (the two airballs in a 40 second span were sort of astonishing), but the one thing he has that nobody on our team has is the ability to get anywhere on the floor, which i think is underrated. he also made several nice passes after breaking down the d and is the only guy outside our big money guys and nunn who can finish at the rim against real nba defenders. on defense, he was probably the guy who gave edwards the most resistance. not saying much, but our more touted defenders got chewed up on straight line drives.

i agree with everyone that i don't really see how he's going to carve out any minutes right now, but i can't think of the mini mle signing that was going to (porter hasn't played due to injury). i guess bruce brown, though he's the same size and has the same career shooting numbers as walker's.

also, if we're going after shooting, don't watch anyone but nunn this preseason. it's been brutal.

I think Russ, Schroeder, Nunn and Lebron (mostly) can still break down defences consistently enough. And I’m not sure that Walker is better than any of them at that to justify playing him over Bev and Reaves who bring the defensive ability he just doesn’t have.

nunn only sort of qualifies there, imo. he has to work very hard to shed defenders off the dribble.

and i said i don't see how i play him over those guys, but i also don't see how anyone else that was possible at the price point would, either. in the game chat, i talked about how down everyone was on lonnie (go look at the wmc thread today, btw), but i still disagree that we actually had many better options. whomever got the mini mle wasn't going to beat out the guys you've named. so taking a one-year chance on a guy who's still young with a lot of upside makes perfect sense to me. his chance will come if someone gets hurt (likely) or if there's a russ trade that clears out some backcourt minutes.

if not, he's 6 million expiring instead of extra salary that we might have to pay to get off.

the walker hate just seems like more complaining for its own sake to me.
