Hard to believe this article flew under the radar around here. For all the daily Westbrook talk, Anthony Davis is the most important player on the team. This is a huge season for him and the Lakers.

    I hate this guy.
Says last 2 seasons were not too bad. Last season was "ok". C'mon man
Then his response to being listed top 20, is a Kobe gif mocking the ranking. Like he deserved to be better? Based on what? He hasn't played!

He also said he did the exact same training as the previous year. That he has a clean bill of health. And that his mindset this year is staying on the floor and return to be dominant and elite. He said he shot terrible from the FT line.

Let's see. We need him. If he's elite, even with our weird roster, we are within the top 6

Anyone with a pulse knows AD is the end and beginning of this. Even if Russ stinks, if AD is playing MVP, the Lakers win games.

I’m expecting AD to be in the DPOY discussion this season.
Anything short of this, and I will be disappointed.

if AD is in the dunker spot, that means we have one of our centers playing in a wing spot in ham's offense? still waiting to see how that possibly makes sense.

This roster is a complete mess. Rob did not give Ham the pieces for great success this season. But as mentioned, if AD plays like a top 5-10 player as he is capable of and stays healthy we should win a good amount of games. I’m more worried about the health than AD’s play.

Well with the 2 great pick ups for vet min at the 5 that Rob brought in and gave him to use with AD himself capable of being a great 5 in key moments …. if Darvin wants to do it wrong that is squarely on him not Rob.

He looks fit in pictures. Too bad he had to be shamed into starting his offseason workout routine and actually caring. I'll wait for results, but until then, I'm not reading more than a paragraph about Mr Glass. I care too much about my health.

Maybe I'm just being too optimistic about the roster moves. I think Rob did a great job under our cap restraints,, filling out a roster designed towards getting both AD and Lebron help.

We FINALLY got AD two young 5's to play with. This is huge for me, my franchise player is at his best as a 4. The guy was DPOY , 1st Team All NBA, and 1st Team All Defense, as a power forward in New Orleans. What the hell is so wrong with that?

We were obsessed with this AD at the 5 full-time nonsense last season. Put him back where he wants to play, and give him some young legs to play with at the 5.

    No.
Jones and Bryant don't have the shot blocking, rim protection reputations that Dwight and Javale had. However they both bring some youth, athleticism and with Bryant, the ability to hit the top of the key 3. This duo can provide a more potent offensive punch. In this 4-1 offensive scheme, having a 5 that can hit the 3 from that spot is considered ideal.

The other thing is that AD is one of the most gifted, and versatile, defensive bigs in the game. He has an opportunity to take two young guys under his wing, and help make them better defensive players. I believe that the bigs, are going to play an even bigger role, than they the did on the chip team.

Main thing is just keeping AD on the floor. the other thing for me is cutting back on the threes.

I understand this sentiment but I can't agree with it. Our roster isn't a complete mess. We are overloaded with guards which isn't bad. We have Bryant and Jones at the five, they are fairly good players. We have AD and Lebron. Austin will be good and Beverly while irritating is a great defender and adds what we missed last season. Coach Ham explains about the offense. We are going to be moving defenses around and attacking. Three point shooting will be better because we will be in rhythm. With our defense, fast breaking and attacking offense we won't be as dependent upon three point shooting. Naturally it would be great to have it all but somewhere down the way we trade a couple guards or end up with a good three and d wing we are all of the sudden looking pretty rounded. Coach Ham seems genuinely optimistic with our roster. I know he wouldn't say otherwise but usually body language or inflections give you away. We should be a good regular season team and have time to fill our one weak spot before the playoffs roll around. Rob has committed to trading the draft picks if the right deal comes around. We have a great coaching staff. There is so much more to be positive about than negative. We were so unwatchable last season. At the very least we will be playing hard and energetic instead of rolling over and playing dead game after game.

Did he said it's AD on the block? I think he may play outside, he likes it. But I don't like it against 4s.
If it's as you say, Bryant or Jones can hit a corner 3. But I agree it's not that big of a threat. They'll double AD from that side

the "dunker" spot in ham's preferred 4-1 is moving sides on the baseline basically, with the other 4 operating as wings with nobody in the corners. i just don't think we have the personnel to make it work, tbh. but again, i'm willing to give ham and his staff the benefit of the doubt that they've considered lots of things i haven't. i just don't see us able to field 5 read and react guys who can score while also being a good defensive unit. whichever big among AD/bryant/jones isn't in the baseline slot has to essentially operate on offense like a wing. they need to be a threat to score or drive from the 60 degree angles to the 45s, if i read the offense right. none of those guys is a real triple threat from those spots. i always thought if AD was a 4, he needed to be in the opposite corner when he wasn't the screener. this offense has no corner.

I'm thinking this could work with what we have. Bryant can shoot from the perimeter. AD can shoot when paired with Jones. Hopefully both are willing to set better picks than Anthony. We have guards that can attack off the dribble, everyone doesn't have to be a 3pt shooter. Lebron and these other young wings have to knock down some shots. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks on the court.

Giannis shoots similar to AD from 3 .288 career percentage. He's even worse than Westbrook for last season and career percentage! I most definitely believe that Anthony can shoot better than that. The chip season Anthony shot 33% from 3 during the regular season, and 38% in the bubble with similar attempts compared to Giannis, 3.5 attempts per game.

It’s almost laughable now to compare AD to Giannis smh

I see, I see. I also don't think our bigs have the ability to put it on the floor and behave like wings. Maybe there's some adaptation of the system to our personnel.
On another hand, Bucks were not playing 4-1 right? Is there a team who has recently played that system?

i thought the bucks did, but giannis plays more like a wing on offense than AD does. AD's not going to face up from 25-30 ft from the basket to positive effect. the bucks usually play 4 guys who can play on the perimeter AND a center who can knock down the 3 (lopez, portis).

another noteworthy thing about milwaukee given our ham connection is that aside from middleton, their wings aren't very big at all. wonder if ham isn't as concerned about wing size as this forum is.
