I was initially surprised Twolves traded him, he provided that attitude that team needed and what we needed as well. ANT has that attitude but it was hard for him to influence KAT and DAR, brought PatBev in and the two played off each other well. I do hope that he's not too much bark though, like you said it can get out of hand.

Here's the difference: Malone, in year 18, was the hardest worker on the court every night. He out played Yao, TD, KG, and in the playoffs at age 40 in consecutive series. If you weren't a fan of him during that playoff run, you're watching the wrong sport. Granted it was short lived, because as soon as that off-season hit the reports of the run in with Vanessa came out and he was dead to me after that. But had he not gotten hurt, he dominates Wallace and Wallace and we win that 'ship.

Pat Bev's antics do not belong on the basketball court and I don't condone that "brand" of theatrics. We're the LA Lakers, not a halftime clown show.

    Not a basketball play

No place in basketball for either dive

No place for guys like that in this league

Those antics can give you a shot of life, but can also be as big of a distraction to his own team as the opposition.

It's one thing when you bring antics with you if you're not a dirty POS and your game backs it up. Rodman's game backed up his tomfoolery. Arguably the greatest rebounder ever and pound for pound one of the best defensive forces in league history. Pat Bev is not in the discussion as a top 100 in any category. Skill wise, there's half a dozen other FA point guards who can do fill up the stat sheet the same way.

The clapping, chirping, the invasion of personal space, the after the whistle gnat s***... it's not a skill. It will play in our favor, but I HATE how Pat Bev (and Draymond Green) gets officiated. Rope is given because it's just Pat being Pat. Any other player would pick up a T per game for those antics, but because that's his thing, the refs let him slide much more so than they should.

And let's not forget the play-in celebration that rivaled the Kobe beating Boston. Act like you belong... please.

Can’t stand Bev. He sucks and he’s annoying. There better be another move coming up because I hate this one.

and that's why i was a huge fan of malone in his season here. hated the fact that he was a laker at first because he was a dirty player and because of those playoff losses to utah in the late 90s, but it didn't take long for me to become a fan because of how he embraced the triangle (unlike GP) and the effort he'd put in nightly

i agree that pat bev is a punk, but if he gives the team 110% every night and plays well, it'll be pretty easy to forget about his past and become a fan of his

I keep saying I don’t even know this team anymore. Total Roster shuffling every year. Unsavory mercenary pick ups.

I just detest every part of having LeBron James as part of the team.

    :Kobepuking:

if it’s me, I trade him and AD, and restock the shelves with young talent.

    no.

me too. i thought he was a big reason the wolves became a thing last year, and he's one of my least favorite players.

i've already gone into why i don't like this move unless it's part of a series of moves that make more sense, and jsm and others have covered why rooting for him will be difficult.

i'll add that i keep hearing reference to him as a shooter, and friends: he is not. he shot 35% last year, and i'm pretty sure nobody ever contested any of them. down the stretch of the playoff games against memphis, he was just left alone time after time.

Having to endure Lebron and Russ's stat stuffing last season with no regard for their teammates was harder for me than trying to pull for someone giving maximum effort even if sometimes misguided. Especially considering they didn't either one join in on the defensive end except to point figures at someone else. Lebron did block a few shots and pound his chest a few times. I'm going to count on coach Ham to reel these guys in and enjoy the development of our young players. That is if we have any left by the time season starts.

Darvin Ham needs to be up every player’s a**, but especially the three stars.

A repeat of last year would be unacceptable

I agree, keep the stars in their lanes and doing what they should be the rest fall right into place. Just from a coaching perspective I can't wait to see Ham in action. All that he has said and the plans he has laid out I really like. The four out one in offense is so versatile you can do anything from it. Keeps the floor spread and all involved, easy to iso miss matches, usually makes three point shooters better bc they get clearer shots. Another benefit I found with it, at least at the high school level, is it helped us get back in transition defense. Not only is there someone out front but bc everyone is moving and involved they get back quicker. A player that just stands on a spot on the floor and rarely cuts I have found gets back slower on defense and is not as committed when they get there. It can't be overstated how important it is to your defense to have players involved in the offense. Also promotes better team chemistry and an injury to a star does not devastate the team. My theory, and only a theory, is the reason many come to the Lakers and start laying bricks is that we usually have stars that dominate the ball too much. Naturally you want the rock in your best players hands more than the others but you can't stand a guy in a spot and rarely let him move and expect him to be the same shooter. Again, my experience is at the high school level but I'm sure some carries over. I get thinking about this and get over excited...lol.

agree. ball (passing, not dribbling) and player movement just makes for better basketball. but again, i feel like vogel asked russ to do some of this, and he refused. now, some will say that's because vogel asked him to stand in a spot (which i think is partly true but also an oversimplification of what he wanted). and maybe that's it, but i think russ's concern wasn't standing, it was simply not dribbling.

anyway, lebron and AD are both very capable of moving themselves to good spots and capitalizing. it will be up to the other guys to make the rest of it work.

Two random things I wanted to mention regarding this cretin.

    - several of the pods and articles that have come out lately liken Bev's presence to that of Rondo's as someone who can get through to Bron and can get on him when he takes a play off defensively. There's a galactic sized issue they're not connecting the dots on here...Rondo is a multiple time world champion who is going into the hall of fame. Patricia IS NOT. Not even close. He shouldn't be allowed to watch the HOF ceremony on TV. Rondo has the resumé that commands respect and the ear of anyone in the league. Pat's resumé belongs on a cocktail napkin. Now if they want to compare it to Dudz, I'll push back there based on Dudz's relationship with stars everywhere he's been but as far as career accomplishments, that's at least a closer comp.

-Pat, Russ, and the Lakers are saying all the right things now with how this pairing will work. They have to hedge in case we can't move Russ. BUT you want to see Russ go nuclear, imagine Russ losing his starting spot (likely) to Patricia... his arch nemesis. That will turn U-G-L-Y in a matter of seconds.

i can't imagine what the russ/bev conversation sounded like (assuming that it actually occurred). i mean, these are two guys that take things personally and pursue their grudges off the court as well as on. hard to believe they were like "we're cool now, i guess?!"

I know the Pat Bev personality type. Basically it’s win at all costs and he is going to war with his teammates. He won’t have a single issue getting along with Russ or calling out the stars.

I also know Russ’ personality type and it’s a toss up whether he sulks over his situation and thinks everyone is out to get him, or whether he bounces back and embraces his teammates. Too hard for me too call right now.

wow giving Bev way to much cred here....win at all cost? The troll basically wants to agitate the best opposing players, most of the time he gets burnt to a crisp, ask steph/dame

That’s kind of what win at all costs is though isn’t it - it covers all those negatives too. Including being a pest.
