if russ gets bought out and accepts the bench role in which he could thrive, i may confront him myself.

I genuinely laughed out loud at dinner. I mean if he gets bought out and wants to go to a contender - where is he going to start?

    Bucks - no
Miami - maybe but probably not
    C Bags - it’s a possibility
    Philly - no
    Raptors - no
    GSW - no
    Phoenix - no
    Denver - maybe
    Mavs - maybe
    Clippers - it’s a possibility
    Grizz - no

The clippers with the PG connection would be my bet. But I think the Mavs and C Bags would make a strong try for him at the minimum. It would be frustrating to see him go to a contender and do well.

I could see Sweat Stain going after him just to f*** with us and it would keep Russ and his family in LA (if that's something he still wants).

I honestly wouldn't care. Just the fact he's not with us would make our team better. That's more important than whatever he does in another team

Mavs are not that stupid. He won't replace what-his-tampering-name... and he certainly should not be taking the ball from Luka

Why would the Clippers want him when they just signed John Wall?

What sense does that even make?

It's obvious. To put that delusionally wronged in his own head coiled ball of hate to work against the Lakers who done him wrong. Waves of players depth. And Russ would buy into off the bench to stick it to us.

All said in jest ^^^. Sort of ;). Am curious where he and his agent will try to go if no one will let him start.

Russ will play more games than Wall, Kawhi, or George next season for better or worse. He could be "super" sub and get 50-60 starts by filling in for each of them. They're also the only team who can play their minimum players $10m a year. Not sure how that works mathematically but it's definitely a thing (seriously 9 players are making more than $10m a year).

because they operate over the cap and use bird rights and trades instead of relying on free agency. they can't sign russ for over the min because they've used all their exceptions, though. but yes, i could totally see them signing him and him signing there out of a large amount of spite all around. and i could see him finally being humbled by the experience and playing well in his role there like he should have here. and everyone will say tyronn lue did it or something.

I know. It was more sarcasm of out of frustration. The fact the JV team has 9 at $10m+, including two stars-superstars, plus they used their tax payers MLE, and have Mann kicking in at $10m+ in a year. They literally have the players where they can do two more of the trades like the Blazers one they did and pivot however and whenever they want. Meanwhile the varsity team is full of fringe players for the vet min and the owner is selling PS5s on the side (I kid). We need an owner will real spending power and competency to not be an all inclusive "family."

Aside from the spending power we need a competent front office. You have to be creative to pull off what the Clippers have. You don’t get that with Pelinka, Rambis, and a bunch of “advisors” in Magic, Phil, etc. When they say this franchise is run like a mom and pop shop, they aren’t kidding.

have they done anything creative? other than have more cash than everyone? they're willing to pay guys 10+ to just sit on the bench and be ready to be traded for something. it's not like they made a move that people scratched their heads about that ended up working. we can't even retain the eagle at less than that. imagine if we had caruso as a trade asset right now. how different would things look? what if we had s&t'd schroder just to keep the salary slot (something the clips or warriors would have done for sure)? nope. just walked out the door.

i think if rob had ballmer, we'd be in much better shape. and really, clips management doesn't have a player and agency meddling in trades. we had a roster much more like theirs just a year ago. in fact, i'd argue we were outdoing them (signing trez away from them, for example, really messed with their strategy).

I think trading for mid salary contract players is more clever than trading for a washed up 47 mil per year “star”, so they’re already ahead there. If they weren’t injured the case can be made they could have won the west last year. I don’t really see what having money matters here either, the cap is the cap, it’s not like they’re the Yankees in the MLB. I stand by that they’ve been creative to add all these well above minimum quality players via trades with better managed assets, and it’s shown on the court when those players kick our players a** and dance on us every time we play them. I hate them, but they’re so much better run than we are, if LeBron and Klutch weren’t here to get us signings it would be even more obvious as well, we were a joke before LeBron came, our FO is out of their depth and behind the times. The Trez thing I think is an outlier as well, he left because he’s petty, and they replaced him easily with a better fit in Ibaka if I remember right.

you were claiming their FO is smarter. our FO was going to make a non-westbrook trade and got railroaded into the worst trade in franchise history. it starts at the top. the clips' management doesn't have to worry that if they don't make the trade kawhi wants, they'll be fired.

it isn't. they aren't bound by the tax, which is why they have an 11th guy making 12 million per. they aren't playing by the same rules, nor are the warriors or nets.

again, we were actually doing great with this prior to the russ trade, and we'd have won two titles if our guys were healthy! they can hang the regular season banners.

yeah, just don't agree. our ownership is out of depth and behind the times. they don't even let management do their jobs. and that's the problem. got freaking rambis running around, rich paul running around. other teams don't have this. it's garbage, and it's why we're where we're at right now.

it was great because the clips were counting on re-signing him AND getting an ibaka (and probably rolling them up in a future trade that took on even MORE salary), which they could have done because they had trez's bird rights. we took part of the engine of their "creativity" away.

i'm still failing to see what exactly they've done that's smart or innovative and not just possible because they have a lot of salary they can move. further, not having the laker tax has been helpful to them, too. and the laker tax is not all the fault of the current FO (though some of it--indy--definitely is).
