Good point!! “Of all things, how he decides to handle Damian Jones is not reason to start doubting his GM acumen.” Good again. Makes more sense to trash it in GT because we haven’t hit a 3pt shot in last 4 minutes.
Yes, this is exactly why it was done. Jones is solid, but signing him means more than just a cheap contract, while not signing him leaves us a little flexibility. With LeBron being injured we might need that now.
He's raw but he gave us more than cement footed Mark Kasol out there. Hopefully there's someone else on the horizon out there.
Yes he brought quick vertical for lobs and a few blocks plus quick feet to get out to perimeter. Definitely useful in spots. Your assessment of Marc not so accurate. Didn’t notice brilliant passing, 3 point shooting and all around court intelligence plus size to deal with larger centers, which McGee last year could not. Damian not the huskiest of centers in that regard either.
Went back and read the original thread, I clearly wasn’t too high on him during his first stint. And I still stand by it making sense to gamble on someone like Drummond over Jones at that time. But I can’t lie, part of my indifferent first impressions on Jones was because I had this idea that athletic 7 footers who can roll to the rim and convert easy lobs grow on trees. But clearly I was wrong on that. This past season taught me the importance of vertical spacing. So I’m glad to have him back for sure, maybe the best signing of the day!
