yep. i think we've done a TON of talking about russ for several months and got lowballed at every turn, and now we're just waiting to see which of the teams we talked to might have a change of heart after the dust settles on FA.

    btw:

this is similar to what i've proposed elsewhere, though simmons obviously does us dirtier (i have reddish instead of rose, and I'd lotto protect the pick).

I want to get rid of Russ so badly, but I’d be iffy on this trade.

Randle from 2 years ago? Sure. But I worry that was a contract year performance.

Last year he seemed like Westbrook in PF format. Shooting numbers regressed heavily, apparently had some attitude issues. I don’t see where he fits alongside Lebron and AD.

And his contract would be the longest on our books. He has a full 3 years PLUS player option left.

Maybe he bounces back with us and we can at least hold him as a trade asset, but I’d worry that we’d be left holding the bag on another undesirable contract.

Aside from all that, I originally envisioned the Knicks as a team that may want to acquire Russ, both to clear cap AND to play him. Don’t see that happening if they’re throwing all this money at Brunson.

yeah, i get it. still do it. if he's russ, at least he's a big, young russ.

i think you play him next to AD and lebron and have a switch-everything back line. hell, all three of those guys can jump guards on pick and rolls, too.

i view randle as "buy low" right now. his value is at its nadir. the pick can be a fake first (lotto protected, then 2 2nds the next year).

I don't mind Bill's proposal, but yeah i definitely add more protection to the pick. With his we get a big, a wing, and another guard. Depth and three off season needs crossed off. I think Randle can definitely bounce back in the right environment. Next to AD with Ham and Handy is about as good of a setup as you're going to get.

You make that trade with the Knicks, except I do top 8 protected. You make that trade because you get size and scoring from bigs and you get rid of a cancer. Teams are also more apt to take on young bigs in a trade with some skills than a malcontent guard who can't make lay ups and blames the coach for it.

See I knew you’d come round on Randle one day. Just took getting rid of Russ to do it.

    ;) :D

    Agreed.

I’m also open in general to trading the pick as long as it’s like top 10 protected or something. Gotta be a really nice young player for us to commit to something that isn’t at least top 5 protected in my opinion.

top-10 protection's as weak as i go unless i'm getting a young/prime star back. for AD, i'll send naked picks (not pics). short of that, they get protected. and if i'm taking a deal like the knicks proposal here, the protection ends with 2nds, not an unprotected.

Does KD then want out though? He wanted away from Russ who was in his prime.

    not my problem!

but honestly, i have no idea. simmons and russ is a terrible fit, so i'm sure bkn would want to re-route or just cut him.

i was just thinking they might want a huge spot open next to kd and simmons next summer, just in case.

guess same could be said for us, though.

Randle screams contract year player but man what a contract year player (40% from 3s on tough shots as a physical PF!!!). He's worth the risk as long as those picks are protected.

Him and AD worked in NO - that team with Jrue was scary they just ran into a stacked Western Conference. With Lebron/AD/Randle everything else falls into place well. Monk becomes a scorer of the bench, THT/Reaves become wing stoppers. Get a guy like Thaddeus young to help you on wing defense with Stanley Johnson and you have a contender again

any trade that revolves around shipping off Westbrook, and getting Randle in return is a win in my book. Don't even care about the pick

Westbrook isn't getting traded period, he will finish this season in LA. Book it...deal with it. Embrace it.
