Yaa? I haven't been paying attention. Figure the first 4 pages of this thread will tell me if we hate it or love it.
WHOA!! Boom goes the dynamite I think. Don’t take any crap from anyone Darvin. Good for you! Now get him top notch help on the offensive side of the ball.
4 years. Great contract. 2 years to get it done with and post Lebron. Hire an offensive assistant and let’s roll.
learned from the monty williams fiasco, so that's good. tbh, i feel bad for ham, but i'm glad he got the 4 years. and of the names we saw (finalists), he was my #1. now let's hope we can get the roster sorted to give him a chance.
What a sigh of relief. I had Ham and Stotts on equal footing and kind of glad we went with the unknown. It's an inspired pick all things considered. Also liked the competency the front office showed during the process too, despite some Doc/Marc scares early on.
This was the best choice to me. Not the safe choice, but the smartest. No more retreads from the coaching carousel, no first time hire of someone who hasn’t paid his dues enough like Luke. Ham has paid those dues, he’s a top assistant from the reigning champs, it’s a nice hire. It absolutely could not work out, but even then I’d STILL think it was the right choice, we need to try new stuff and stop always going for the big name or former Laker. Now just stay out of meddling with his staff, and give him a competent roster and your full support. Also glad they didn’t cheap out on the years and lose him to Charlotte possibly.
That's how I view it. Even if it doesn't work it is the best choice. Team has to give him the tools now both in terms of staff and players.
I like it. Not gunna lie, I’ve been 90% checked out, but anyone but Doc Rivers was my motto. But to my surprise, they actually might have made a good hire here.
I remember liking him as a player too, he was a hustle guy. Unrelated to coaching, but still, fun watch
Definitely excited about this move and glad to finally have closure on our coaching situation! Feels refreshing to have a new first time coach to root for, and I was continuously paranoid we’d botch the decision and go with a retread. Even beyond the obviously terrible prospects of Doc/Jackson, it was also becoming increasingly difficult to convince myself to get excited about the idea of Stotts as our head coach. Lebron is excited And more importantly… Bazemore is excited too! I could not help but lmao at Bazemore tweeting about this hire, there is no chance in hell you’re back on this team bud!
Maybe it’s just semantics, but Woj saying “Ham will start assembling a staff expected to include head coaching experience” is promising if the implication is that Ham will be making those decisions himself instead of the FO.
can someone explain to me why we did not want to give Ty Lue 4 years before we hired Vogel, but now hired this coach for 4 years?
Not my choice but I’ll wait and see, I fear this has the makings of a Mike Brown disaster. I hope they get him some hustle guys.
Learned from their mistakes and that they actually have to catch up with the market and the times with our offers to who we want. Haven't seen the $ but maybe we save some with him being a first time hire vs. what they were going to have to give a Lue or Monty
Welcome back to the Lakers, Darvin Ham! Now keep Phil Handy. He's the only assistant coach I want to keep. They worked together on the Lakers coaching staff in 2011-2013. Reunite Darvin and Phil!
