The more I see of our coaching lists the more I wish Frank had not been fired. AD injured, Lebron injured and selfishly chasing Kareem, Russ falling off a cliff and being a disaster. No coach could have done anything with this little three. He didn't use our young guys like I would have liked to have seen but not a firing offense.

He lost his voice in that locker room. Since you can’t fire your stars, sometimes you have no choice.

That’s it. Vogel is the fall guy just like the thread title states. No it wasn’t his fault that the FO saddled him with an uncoachable star and took away his defenders. Nor that both his superstar players missed almost half the season and our backup PG missed it entirely.

But something had to give and the HC is the easiest one to change. Especially when he was at the end of his contract.

Let’s just hope the FO gets this hiring right and we don’t end up with a worse coach.

His one year contract extension was through next year (I think?) so they’ll have to eat 3-4 million for scapegoating him.

This could be easily read as Russ was also just defensively unaware which would be accurate. I never realized how bad a defensive player till he came over: just not a good help/team/or even just try hard on defense

They have film of him seeming to be so completely unaware of his surroundings and the impact of his freelancing on defense. It was really horrible to watch.

We all were assimilated into the Hive of the Lying Eyes according to the Russ oracle here. Which are you going to believe?

Nah, that was Frank’s fault, each and every time, for putting him in those positions to fail.

I am open to bringing Russ back if we do go for an offensive minded coach like Stotts or MDA. We sank enough of our assets trying to lessen the load for Lebron. Maybe he should focus on defense and give up the ball more often and actually use the teammates. He made his bed its time to lie in it. Theoretically continuity does build chemistry and better outcomes after playing more reps together (wasn't that AD's excuse that the big 3 didn't have enough time together)

Not interested in giving up first round picks for Russ to please depreciating asset/blackhole like Lebron.

I would be ok with AD but you can tell a lot of Lebron's entitlement has rubbed off on him too. Poor attitude and resting on your laurels is not gonna bring success (as evidenced by the last 2 seasons).

Russ is like a mirror put in front of Lebron..... shameless stat padding at the cost of losing games.

If Russ' contract needs to be eaten this year then so be it.

Couldn’t agree more with this take. Lebron has been a terrible influence on AD in these areas.

Yeah. This is surprising to me.

Considering everything else is leaking like a faucet, I think it's the latter.

So the story now is "we made changes and the coach could not adapt" but the obvious question the FO is not asking is why the fu** you messed with a championship roster when we had the opportunity to bring back every (except Rondo whose offer from Atlanta was too much) player. We could have kept that team (sans Rondo) AND added Melo and Reeves maybe Monk.

Kam brothers took the kernel of the THT for Duncan Robinson idea from that article yesterday and spun it into this to discuss a hypothetical trade for Russ...

    Screenshot_20220520-115531_Chrome.jpg

Lowry will give you 60ish games. He can help with culture, can play without the ball some, much better leader, defender, and shooter than Russ regardless of age. Robinson is out of their rotation, but you're betting on a 28 year old shooter being able to figure out and break out of his case of the yips. With Vincent playing that well, would Riley want to shed some cash to line up another free agent run in a year? If we don't have to give up any picks or other assets, is that a worthwhile risk for us?

I think I could be talked into this one. All the deals we're linked to involve injury risk -- Brogdon, Hayward, Wall. So that's not unique. If Lowry's wheels fall off, you can trade his expiring next summer.
