Really..I wasn't aware that he was a 3pt specialist TIME. Can I refer you back to the shooting performance of our Championship Core against Phoenix btw?

I can get with the FT, blown layups and wild TO's mentioned them myself multiple times. Doesn't equate to washed though.

I just told you any team that needs a point guard. Hell he hasn't been mentioned in trade talks because the other team wants him to sit out. I mean you said if he got bought out, nobody would want him, that's one of the most ridiculous things that you have ever posted on here. If you truly don't think Westbrook would be pursued, then you have been listening to Skip Bayless or something entirely too much my man.

Lol..then again..Gasol was the best center since Shaq, and Vogel will land another HC gig right way if he wanted it? NO..You might actually believe some of this stuff

I dont think so at all. AI, Starbury, Steve Francis all got black balled for something similar. Hell I legit still wanted to see AI play, he was never as inept as Russ when he was playing.

It shows that contract was the only leverage that had Russ starting, once we bench him hes an unmovable 44-47m a year dead weight. Currently at 47M because he has to be incredibly insane to think he'd get anywhere near that type of money turing down his player option.

With the exit interview and what he said at training camp without buying into Vogel speaks volumes and what I expected all along. Considering his passive aggressive attitude, lack of taking responsbility and scapegoating anyone else besides him.

I dont see how at his age and his attitude is going to help any team in the league, he aint no good mentor obviously. Even if he accepts a roleplaying position, dude does not have the skill sets and relies on athletcisim in which at his age we all know is at a decline and has declined.

More talented stars (fundamentally) have retired sooner. Prime Russ, if the coach is able to control him and plays within his lane then he's useful other than that I stand by my opinion that he has been hot garbage his entire career.

Hot garbage for a player is projected to a certain caliber/standard. I mean hell at this point since his career is basicaslly at an end, I honestly believe you can give Monta ellis the keys to a team like that and he'd put up some insane numbers too (although not triple doubles, he'll prob come short on the boards )

Russ is such a niche player that can't adapt (which basically means hes a crappy star player), he isn't that great if he can only play by over dribbling and bricking all over the place.

Lol, its like D'Antoni in Russ form but extremely narcssistic. This is just how I truly feel and its something that I feel like most can agree upon, its not like I'm crazy and imagining all these turn overs, selfish 3pt shots in clutch moments when you got open 3pt shooters, can't complete basic passes, doesn't defend and prioritizes on complaining.

We ain't trying to disrepect you for being a Russ fan or Russ out of nowhere, but you can't blame us for calling out every single thing he did because they're not lies. Its not like he doesn't want the smoke (no matter what contradictive non-sense he says). Hes talking out of his rear and contradicting himself 80% of the time.

Lol being angry when reporters call out his bad plays, lying saying there was no chip expectations, lol even playoff expectations. All I get from him is he doesn't care, in a city that does.

His attitude is crap, with him throwing Frank under the bus without taking any responsiblity and bullying/intimdating reporters for asking legitmate questions is when I lost all respect for dude. He's from LA, he should know better. You don't get stripes for that, NBA must've made him full of himself.

I appreciate the detailed response, at least you laid out your thought process. There is nothing wrong with a difference of opinion. Now I will keep it moderately brief. I wasn't a big fan of Vogel's, I thought he was a rather average coach. However he won a chip here so that's respect for getting it done. I don't think Russ disrespected Frank, if this give me the ball stuff is the reference point. Any point guard would do that Imo. Those guys texting during games from the bench, that's disrespecting your HC. So along the Frank vien, I'm going to go with the fact that Brooks take on Russ as a professional, has been echoed throughout his career. He didn't mesh wit Frank and I circle back to him calling out Vogel about never having a sit down or discussion with the staff about his role. He didn't walk that back and Frank didn't say it wasn't true when he was asked about it. You make that move and there isn't any real plan? We traded for Russ on draft night. Trying to lump in some petty stuff about bringing up the ball, or a tiff over a film session is weak sauce. You just repeated a narrative about his "attitude " that has been rebuffed by every player and coach he had before landing here. Maybe he and Vogel didn't get along because Vogel didn't have a clue on how to run an offense. Lol..they had Russ playing the two off Lebron for a minute.
You just spent another post basically bashing the man's perceived "attitude " problem. I posted stuff from those who actually played with him that contradicts that take. THEY ain't all lying . On the court, dude still gets to the cup at will, he dishes in the pocket of shooters routinely, that's not washed. Tighten up those FT, and convert those layups and I couldn't care less about his jump shot. The wild TO gotta go tho. That man can still hoop. He's not 47 million strong, but that's not my problem, he had that contract when he got here. I know it looks great coming off our cap next season tho. I'll stick with Westbrook over any deal I've seen thus far. Maybe the next HC will actually understand what running an actual offense entails. I'm all about the team, players come and go. But right now I don't consider Russ the problem at all. Those two guys he was brought in to support gets more of my ire. They watched most of the season from the bench. He showed up every night to work with the scraps left.

    so none.

and keep on with gasol, who has nothing to with this but will always be better than drummond.

and no, westbrook won't be pursued if he's bought out. not with anything over MLE (i'd be surprised if he got that). as loon3y said, steve francis was a badass, too, until he wasn't. russ is done.

You have mastered the art of redirecting the conversation when it doesn't fit your narrative. We weren't discussing whether Russ was a 3 point specialist. We also weren't discussing the shooting performance of the Championship Core against Phoenix. We were discussing whether Russ was often left unguarded by opposing teams. You claimed that was not true and that you had recorded every Laker game in an appeal to authority to place your point above question. I then asked how you could have missed all the wide open three point shots that Russ bricked throughout the year.

Of course teams guarded him when he drove the lane. Every teams attempts to guard the paint. But anything outside of 15 feet and he was usually allowed a free pass to shoot because he is known as the worst outside shooting guard in the NBA. Instead of a Phoenix series that Russ did not even play in, look at the Lakers / Rockets series of a couple years ago. We left him wide open over and over at the three point line as a defensive strategy. It would not have worked if Russ had refused to take the bait, but he can't help himself. Instead he took 27 threes that series and made 7. Almost all of them were wide open. You can do the math.

Well moving backwards the guy played with a torn quad in that series, so I can understand him taking more jumpers. I find it weird that even Lakers fans try to bring up the Rockets series as some kind of "evidence " of Russ sucking. The Rockets started Robert Covington at 5!! Who in the hell seriously gave them a shot at beating us in the bubble? I mean seriously, did you? Be honest... this narrative also floats around a lot around here. SMH Westbrook was the deciding factor in that 6'7 and under bunch getting spanked by us in 5 games. They never had a chance.

Ok so nobody guards Russell Westbrook outside of 15 feet. That's your position? NOBODY? OK. I'll run back the last 5 games and check on that specific statement. It will be interesting to see what it reveals however it turns out. You might be accurate, I will chart every shot he took, this gives me something to do. I get where you are coming from, I really do, but it will actually be cool to look back at some games. I might end up agreeing with you. Lastly......

The point about the Phoenix series was that Westbrook isn't a three point specialist, he is a career 30%shooter from behind the arc. You mentioned him missing wide open 3's, my reference was about all our "supposedly" decent 3pt shooters, missing wide open 3's in that series. That's not a misdirection it was a comparative comment. A known non shooter missing jumpers, is kind of why they are called non shooters LOL. Sometimes shooters can't throw it in the ocean, especially Lakers "shooters " lately. That's what I was getting at. It's all good I'll watch some games tomorrow and check back in on this one.

Side note someone did a piece on how Westbrook was countering guys giving up space by backing down to the paint and nullifying that strategy, because teams had problems dealing with him in the paint. You may have a point. It's one of the few tactical adjustments Vogel made all season.

Can someone please post that chart on 3 point shooting and difficulty, I can’t find it. It shows that Russ had some of the most open 3 point shots but still missed.

This is an absolutely ridiculous take. Hot garbage his entire career? KD and Russ were title contenders for 5 years straight and missed a championship by the slimmest margins.

2011 - Lost to Dallas (title winner) in the Conference FInals
2012 - Lost to Miami in the Finals
2013 - Russ injured by Beverly, KD loses in second round
2014 - Lost to San Antonio (title winner) in the Conference Finals
2015 - Lost to Golden State (title winner) in the Conference Finals

That's a pretty crazy run, 1 finals and 3 conference finals all losing to the eventual winner. It doesn't get much closer than that and then KD bailed. I think they were the best team in the league in 2013 and 2015, but injury and KD choking against GS cost them.

PG joined him after this but was injured with shoulder issues in the playoffs in both seasons. Then in Houston, Russ had a torn quad in the playoffs. Since then he either didn't have the talent in Washington or the health here with us with Lebron and AD missing over 50% of the season.

Not to mention he had an incredible MVP season.

You have your opinion of Russ but this is refuted by every player and coach he has played with. Even Vogel said how happy he was that he stuck with Russ and that the guy was a professional. He didn't throw him under the bus. As for being a poor mentor, that's not what Oladipo, Schroder, Avdija, Trae Young or our very own Austin Reaves say. He has been encouraging Reaves since day 1 - Reaves even changed his instagram display picture to one of Russ and him. Westbrook is a terrific mentor.

none of this happened. don't believe your eyes or things people count.

and while i'm not going to dispute svtzr's points about russ being an outstanding player for more than a decade, that has no bearing on whether he was terrible this year or is likely to be good again, imo. again, everyone's good until they're (often suddenly) not. that russ's game nosedived with dropoffs in athleticism was something everyone accurately foresaw and is simply playing out in front of our eyes (well, the open ones). when i say he's done, i mean "russ" is done. if he wants to be a backup/fringe player like dwyane wade was after his athleticism left him, somebody will take him. hell, i'll take him! but he's indicated zero interest in that. and in that case, he's an actively harmful player.

and i don't know anything about mentorship per se, but i know his bad attitude was both visible and audible most of the year, and that's not good for a team.

WB had a bad season; he is also declining.

However, if you want me to take on Gordon Hayward, there must be draft compensation.

    Can't do it otherwise...

Probably @Slick2021 or @svtzr as they went back and charted every shot Russ has taken in his career.

Just take up space rambling about the great Westbrook while others who cover the Lakers and watch games for a living mostly say he sucked.

    Thread of the year here!

    Lets go!!!
