Maybe so. Walton was home grown for his entire career pretty much. High bball IQ. Slid in with Kerr out and was setting victory records. The stars seemed to align for him, and apparently what he wasn't ready for was masked by having an incredibly elite squad that didn't challenge him.

Maybe "lessons learned" on Walton affected our offer to Lue. Of course, we could always play the race card and blame that.

this is what i was thinking, and it fits our extreme overcorrection model.

watch, next summer, the roster will be nothing but unproven young players around the stars, since the all-vet strategy flopped so hard.

next coach will be all-offense, all the time, etc.

Vogel did great when he was given defensive rosters and bad when he wasn't .

We knew this is who he was .

I don't blame him much for this season and thank him for the title

The blame lies on Lebron only. He's the chosen one.

The Lakers offered 3 years 18 million to Lue and he was incredibly insulted and humiliated by the offer and so, in a stick-it-to-the-man gesture, he became an assistant for the Clips for about half that. 0 championships later. Though that roster, if healthy next year, (big "if") is stacked after that big trade this season. He may come out laughing in the end.

while this is true (the clips and nets have to be the preseason favorites next year), i'd also like to register the hilarity that is imagining kawhi and kd are healthy and assuming AD never walks again.

Lue has done better in two seasons than Vogel, without his two main guns too.

We've entered the CYA window that I expect the next 3 months with plenty of exclusive interviews and sources comments from all parties.

as was foretold by several of us in the offseason.

right. you can't just "coach up" folks who have never defended. they don't even understand what it means.

the idea that a coach just makes individual guys commit defense in similar to blaming an offensive coach for guys not making open threes. they don't know how. they have to learn how first.

exactly. the whole point of westbrook was that we could win more if a star was down. we most certainly did not.

Probably win a lot more games too. A healthy Lebron and AD are still undefeated in a playoff series. A big IF on it happening next season. If I did, I wouldn't bet against them.

I just can't see Doc being a realistic option Cookie. The media makes a lot of noise just to generate some buzz. The guy would want more than we will be willing to pay, the buyout would be huge, he wouldn't agree to folks picking his staff, and he's not exactly an X and O guru. That's the longest of long shots IMO. Snyder though? Coupled with Brooks? That might happen, much more realistic than Doc "The King of blowing 3-1 leads". Rivers. I'd be totally shocked.

Please clarify if you mean Vogel in the past 2 seasons only or overall because I thought championships were still the bar by which all were measured. I guess excuses are a bigger measuring factor? You can't not count his championship season.

Lue wasn't a HC coach that year we won the chip. I mean he already had a ring and had been to three straight Finals right? I kind of left that part out too. I'm still a bit confused as to what makes Frank better or even on par with Lue when you look at it in that manner.

It's curious the guy won a ring coming back from 3-1, went to 3 straight Finals. Somehow that gets knocked because he had Lebron. Yet Vogel had never been to the Finals, and won his ring with Lebron as the Finals MVP, but Vogel is somehow a better coach?

Prisoners of the moment. Ty Lue turned the Lakers down, that's on him. Frank coached well until this year. Everyone thinks they are Carnac the Great after the fact. You aren't. Lakers players are the blame. They played like skinned pigs over a fire. Blame them, they are the ones on the court playing defense like the clowns at the 24 hour fitness.

Kawhi has played 45% of all games in the past 5 seasons. I wonder what the Vegas odds of finishing the whole season next year are.
KD has played 39% of all games in the past 3 seasons. (assumes he plays these last 2 games)
AD has played 51% of all games the past 2 seasons (assumes he plays these last games and there is no guarantee of that with this guy).

I took the worst possible sample size for all 3 of these guys and the scary thing is you can go back 5 years on Kawhi and still have less than 50% of all games played. I mean KD had the Achilles, career-wise has been ok, played 77.5% of all games career, he's also older (33) than these guys. Kawhi has only played 65% of all games his career and is 29. AD is 75% career also 29. Not really that far off and no major injuries yet.

I think you missed my point. You said Bron and AD are still undefeated in a playoff series. I was making a joke about Doc saying his starting 5 are undefeated in the playoffs. I don’t think Doc will be our coach and if by some reason he is…..I thought this season was bad. Doc as our head coach, it’s making me sick just thinking about it.

I think Doc Rivers retires from coaching after Philly. Dealing with these pansies has to have finally gotten him to the point of just putting it to bed. If he can squeeze a title out this year, I wouldn't be surprised if he retired on top. My opinion of Doc changed since Kobe died and I have a lot of respect for him and him calling out Harden is the stuff head coaches in the league aren't doing enough. We blame management, the weather, siblings, ex wives, all these insignificant people but not enough of the team as a whole. They are the ones in control when they are on the court.
