I think every team does, generally speaking, the question is are they also coach material. It takes a certain type of personality that is not common to run a squad.

I like Vogel, but he is a specific type of coach that can’t really adjust his style or system if the pieces don’t fit. Moving forward I don’t see the pieces fitting until Lebron hangs them up.

And further to the point, Lebron is just tough to coach, remember how much of a pain he was with Spo when he didn’t respect him at the beginning? There was talks of Riley coming back to coach. I couldn’t imagine a young scout or video coordinator telling Lebron to get back on D or what play to run on O.

In my opinion, we need an offensive coach that can get the best out of AD and get Lebron into more dangerous positions without doing so much work and lastly someone who can get this recent offensive production out of Westbrook for a whole season. We can get a few defensive pieces around them to get a stop here or there at the end of games. But moving forward we need to be offensive minded.

hmmm...interesting thought, and if russ is going to be here, it may be the only way (quite literally d'antoni himself). i'm inclined for the opposite--build a defensive team that features lebron as the offensive hub. just a ton of versatile defenders, one or two guards who can score (nunn/monk?), and the two stars.

i don't know. as long as lebron is near 40, i don't think we can both, so we agree on that.

I heard Mike Brown has an impressive set of defense YouTube videos…

RIP Frank. Sorry things did not end well. No way you can come back though. Time to clean house.

I just don’t know if Lebron has it in him to be the offensive juggernaut we need game in game out anymore. That’s why he is settling for jumpers so often, and the nights he isn’t hitting, it’s average offence.

Imagine AD as the roll man in a dantoni offence. It’s stoudemire all over again. We know Russ works in that offence as he averaged 30 and we know he can play with a dominant ball handler because he did it with Harden. I’d also expect Lebron to have his best offensive season underneath that kind of offence.

The key is AD and Lebron playing together, Lebron can attack more with AD on the floor drawing the defense as he does, settling less on jumpers.
These fools played 23 games together this season, a lot of those were out of rhythm, coming off injuries. That ain't gonna cut it, no way, no how.
They played 61 out of 71 together in the bubble year, going .770 on those games. .500 on the games without both. If they can't stay on the floor, particularly AD, no team with AD is going to work with AD playing 50% of the time. It'd be nice if Lebron could play more than 72% of the time too but when your just-turned-29 superstar can't make more than 1/2 the games over the past 2 seasons, you got issues.

It’s what I feared. Vogel getting let go but probably replaced by someone worse. They have no good ideas at all for coaches it seems. Our track record is awful.

    Quin is a good replacement.

He isn't a great replacement, but he's better than what I've seen mentioned.

    Doc is an absolute No.

Lol what a nightmare this post.

But I tell you something, if we don't move Westbrook, put Rambis there so we can move that mf once and for all when the season ends and start fresh without both.

Based on the most recent data, it's very likely we hire a s***ty coach

Quinn would be good but I’m not getting the feeling like he is even available. The article didn’t give me any optimism at all - more like the Lakers just want him.

lol, yes. the way to finally rid ourselves of rambis is to officially give him the keys. i'm only half-joking. it's how we got rid of jim! i work in an organization that has a rambis, btw, and they're insidious because they have a ton of power but an ill-defined role. so nothing can be their fault, but they can take credit for any successes anywhere. the way to declaw these people is to put them in charge of specific things, and the cagey ones know how to avoid that. sadly, rambis is probably that kind. i mean, i did just call my person a "rambis".

anyway, just a vomitorium of suggestions. i like snyder, but he's at best a modest upgrade, imo. the others are downgrades with less total career success than vogel. what a joke.

we need to just identify model franchises (gs, toronto, SA) and poach from them. but not mike brown. new people.

We’re in for a loooooong off season if these are the options for a new coach.

Snyder’s the best of the bunch but is he even available. A big HELL NO to the other names.

…I may have to give up all sports talk, social media and message boards if we hire Doc.

Vogel's had one good season in his last 7 on the bench. I think we'll be alright moving on from Frank. I understand that that the one good season resulted in a Championship. The fact that we Lakers fans, have only enjoyed 1 good season in the last 10, perhaps leads to the desire to cling to anyone associated with that season. I get it...still I don't have the same sense of impending doom coming if we fired Vogel. IMO the players more or less quit on Frank back in December.

i will stop following this team if they hire doc rivers. aside from the fact that he's C bag scum, he's a terrible head coach

snyder seems to be the only name out there who is an upgrade over vogel

Doc Rivers is a name coach, so I understand the media always throwing his name out there. I seriously doubt that we have any real interest in him though. For two reasons..1. He's going to want to get paid. 2. He's not going to allow the FO to dictate who is going to be on his staff.
The Doc Rivers stuff is just a bunch of noise.

Unfortunately firing Frank is inevitable. I still think he’s a much better coach than what we seen this past year. The honorable thing to do would be for Pelinka/Rambii/LeGM to admit they gave Vogel an atrocious roster and try to fix it by giving him some actual leverage to build his own squad to fit his coaching strengths.

i also think citing the vets quitting on frank is pretty rich. who's that on, exactly? i'm sorry he couldn't make teams guard westbrook. you could have all played harder on defense all year long, and you didn't need anyone telling you to do it.

what makes anyone think the same guys won't "quit on" the replacement? because they get to choose him? oh great. really looking forward to seeing their personnel management back in action.
