This article feels and reads like they were going to drop it today after expecting a huge loss to Utah. The part that irks me the most is how much power Rambis has. Nepotism at its finest. I’m ready to turn on this front office if they fire Vogel midseason. The amount of mistreatment is absurd for a coach that won us a championship only a few seasons ago. And then fail to give him rosters that fit his coaching style.
Fizdale was so bad and yes Vogel can be rigid but that's how he builds trust with his player: he gives them a legit shot and lets them play thru mistakes (see KCP and Rondo). Over time he ends up in the right place and he's already shown the balls to start both Reaves and Johnson. Telling a coach he is in the hot seat rather then actually giving a championship winning guy a bit of rope is how we're going to see Russ get huge minutes instead of the nice just 28 last game. (I reserve the right to change my mind if the front office told him it was ok to stop playing Russ lol)
Vogel is going to get another gig for sure: he should just shove it up Rambis's butt and say why don't you coach day to day. I'm sure Rambis will love it: it's not like Lebron's isn't buds with Kevin Love who loved you as a coach.
Here’s what Rambis doesn’t understand. We Lakers fans know abysmal coaching when we see it (Harris, Mr. Potato Head, Pringles, Luke, Magic, Scott….Rambis) and this 2021-2022 season with Vogel ain’t nowhere near it.
Unless we have an under the table deal lined up with an elite coach to replace Vogel (and I don’t know if there are any available coaches that fit this), this makes no sense. Replacing Vogel with Fizdale at this point is absurd. Unfortunately, the article reads as if Vogel getting fired is inevitable. I don’t know if this even makes sense for a “development coach”, but I’d almost be more comfortable handing the reins to Phil Handy than Fizdale. Handy seems well respected amongst the team and around the league, might as well see what he can do in a bigger role rather than going with a coach we KNOW is bad in Fizdale.
Vogel is the best coach we have had since Phil and it's not even close. The level of disrespect is tough to swallow. Firing him now and is implementing a 3rd system this season is a trip to the lottery. There's nothing out there and not much internally. I'll gladly take a respected Handy over another look at Fiz... that was brutal. @abeer3 brought up you didn't want to see Rondo next season. We deserve a top flight coach, but unless something odd happens this summer (comparable to Carlisle being dumped) then at the very worst he's as good as the field.
Kenny Atkinson is an assistant coach right now with GS, but I would imagine he would be available to take over next season. That said, he's meh.
I’m REALLY losing faith in our FO. This is the kind of thing you do in the summertime. What a mess!!!
Yeah, it's just such a bad look right now. To pin the blame on Vogel and throw him under the bus when the FO did such questionable moves: getting cheap on Caruso, turning over the entire roster except for Lebron AD and THT, bringing in almost all offensive players only and the most polarizing move of bringing in Westbrook despite the warning signs. I mean I'm one of only a handful at most of folks here who are actually in favor of the Westbrook trade and even I acknowledge it was a big risk to trade three legitimate players for him. And we won't fully know if that pans out until after the season is over. Put it this way - they didn't do Vogel ANY favors. In fact they tied his hands behind his back by strapping him with a bunch of one way guards, dismantling his team so there is no continuity and then adding on Westbrook as point guard who, even I as a fan have to admit is simply an uncoachable player. And now this is all his fault? Honestly, it's a very cowardly move from Rob and Rambo. I never expected to see something like that from our FO and I don't think I have before. I'm really disheartened by this. Awful timing.
If LeBron is "smart" and a real leader, he will go to bat for his coach. We have seen bad coaching a lot. Frank Vogel is not bad. His lineups are what they are because he has to play within the skill set of his two stars. If he doesn't, leaving 2 and 3 guys who can't shoot can be catastrophic. Frank didn't forget how to coach all of a sudden. He was good the last two seasons.
Is there a chance of Rambis getting fired from the organization if he gets the head coaching job and stinks like we all know he would? That would be the only chance at a silver lining. To fire Vogel is just down right dumb at this point.
Didn't a bunch of schleps riot outside Staples when Rambis was hired? Imagine if he was put in to coach....haha
