If that had happened during the Miami-Shaq years I would have thought it was malicious. However, ever since the 08 Olympics, Wade and Kobe have seemed generally friendly with each other and I don't hold the nose incident against him.

SMH. This thread/topic doesn't deserve 4 pages. Wade isn't coming, and this is just being thrown out to help his cause. This is credit to the activity on this site though that it reached 4 pages.

Just remember, if we sign him at 3 years/$50 mil, that's $50 mil we can't spend on other FAs once the Randle/Clarkson/Okafor nucleus looks ready to make a run.

Well next summer his contract wouldn't look awful... It wouldn't look good, but not awful either. And it wouldn't keep us from adding another piece or two in FA. In fact, he'd fit in nicely as the Kobe replacement assuming Kobe retires. It's too much to ask Kobe to be a 16/4/4 guy for a couple years, but I don't think it's too much to ask that of Wade.

I guess I've just soured on Wade more than others here. His numbers have been okay as of late, but I see him as a guy with creaky old knees that are more or less on their last legs (no pun intended). I don't seen him as someone I want to pay large sums of money to excel in a position that requires superior athleticism.

I agree honestly for the most part. I think he's a major, major injury risk and there's massive downside to signing him. I just think there's also some pretty good upside to having a championship player on the roster besides Kobe.

I view him pretty much in the same light as Tyson Chandler. I'd love Tyson even though we're drafting a big because he can help teach guys what it takes to be a champion. Kobe at times will be too intense for them. Having another guy who can back him up but be more level headed hopefully would be hugely beneficial for us.

If I was a free agent, I'd have "interest" in EVERY team with MAX cap room. Jus sayin

Exactly. And signing him pushes Kobe to the 3. A spot he probably would have more success with if he were 6 years younger. But we need 3 and D at that spot and Kobe provides neither at this point. Wade, Kobe and Randle...I mean, who is going to keep teams from collapsing on Okafor (or Cousins). They'll be able to sit 3 guys in his lap.

You don't necessarily need three point shooting to space the floor. You just need guys to hit open shots and cut to the rim. I'm really not as concerned about it as you are.

I wouldn't mind Wade. Do it, Mitch.

A friend of mine flew from LAX to Miami this morning.. He sent me a text saying that Dwayne Wade was on his flight...

So... He was in LA. Not sure why... Possible Lakers meeting?

We're not allowed to talk to free agents until July 1st. Wade has been in the league a long time. He knows the benefit of living in Los Angeles instead of some other Podunk town, he's aware of the cache, history, and our salary cap situation.

He has until next week to decide to opt in to his $16.1 million dollar contract or not. I wouldn't mind Wade, but I think the Lakers interest has been embellished. It always his; I wouldn't mind Wade, but I don't see the Lakers throwing flips over paying a 33 year old who's declining; it's a last resort alternative.

Not sure you can do that before free agency opens, or it's tampering. If they were "secretly meeting", you'd have never seen him. Probably be a phone call from an untraceable cell lol.

    I have a stat for you. :)

Wade was one of the league leaders in "gravity" and "distraction" score. The two stats combined is called the "respect rating". The entire list is basically 3pt specialists like Curry, Klay, and Korver (those 3 were the top 3 btw)...except Wade and Kobe. They were the only 2 on the list that weren't 3pt specialists.

Wade was in the top 10 too. He made a comment regarding how players stick to him because the moment you turn your head or even help off him, he's going to sharply cut to the basket. He's so good off the ball that he becomes a very unique "floor spacer".

Now, whether or not that can transition to the Lakers is a different story. Still, Wade isn't like Rondo or something. He can space the floor in his own way.

Yeah without the new fangled stat that's mostly what I had in mind. :D

There's other ways to space the floor. The Lakers never had elite shooting with Gasol/Bynum but we made it work. It wasn't even like Lamar was a stretch four really either.

That's good. He's done that is whole career. I'd still like a shooter or 2 in the lineup with him. Diving, cutting, motion concepts, horns sets, whatever the hell you run, we need shooters with a player like D. Wade to exploit defenses.

At best if he's here for basketball it's a Kobe meeting. Like others have said, we're not allowed to talk to FAs yet and Mitch isn't dumb enough to draw attention to the situation.

But probably he's here because his wife is an actress and has some event he has to go to.

After these past 3 injury riddled seasons it would be horrible to go through another with Wade and Kobe who we know will both be on the DL at some point if not multiple times. At times I think people look at the players as trading cards and not flesh and blood. I'm praying the Lakers stay away from injury prone FAs like Wade, Rondo, and Love.
