He doesn't need to bench him or anything too drastic. Shortening minutes, bring him in a little later. No need for a big showdown. Just be a little smarter.

Please Lord …. give our coach the wisdom and the strength to help this talented but mentally challenged player find his inner Jason Kidd.

You misspelled his name. It’s “Antoni.” There is no “D” associated with that guy anymore.
After knowing a bit about what I harp on about, you can imagine the time I had when Pringles was at the helm.

The question is not Vogel but how will this stuff with Lebron and when he gets back AD. Yes its a star powered league but in this team Russ is not the star. I completely agree that it is unlikely he gets benched in crunch time but his 4th quarter minutes may take a nosedive

This is kind of what I was referring to earlier with my hope for LeBron to give some strong help here. They’re “Bros” I guess sort of but when push comes to shove and we have fought our way back into playoff maneuvering (team health and injuries willing) and Russ’s brain farts and lazy / careless TOs keep hurting us …. James is going to have that man to man unpleasant conversation with him and hopefully something sinks in and they happen less and less. No idea really. Hell if he would just stop blowing 70% of his layups and dunks it would be great too.

This was from the Stanley Johnson article:

Vogel and his coaching staff have garnered praise among Lakers players for the clarity they provide them on the specifics of their role. Vogel is transparent about whether he views a player as a starter or bench player, how many minutes the player should expect, and what responsibilities the player will have on the floor.

From all the behind the scenes footage and various reports, this coaching staff do a really good job of communicating with the players and what they want from them. They also break down a lot of video with them and provide them with a lot of advanced analytics that we don't have access to.

So it stands to reason, that they realise Russ' defensive rebounding is valuable even if means he sells out not defending his man from time to time. To me it's been interesting the last few games they've been putting Russ on the weakest guard/wing where he can sag off. Russ is a far stronger on ball defender than off ball but they don't employ him like that because they want him to get the rebound and push the pace.

I totally agree with this. And it's telling that numerous coaches have employed this strategy of freeing up Russ to chase defensive rebounds: Scott Brooks, Billy Donovan, D'Antoni and Vogel.

Before we crucify the player, I think we need to examine the coaching staff and what they want out of Russ defensively and the impact his defensive rebounding has on our transition offence.

I honestly don’t think the word “crucify” should ever be used in describing how a fan describes their opinion regarding a player.

You just used a word that has a real brutal history throughout thousands of years. It’s a cross cultural torture device that I find offensive, but based off of your response, you couldn’t care less.

This is the first time I’ve come across someone being offended by that term. I understand why, I’ve noted it and won’t use it again here at lakers ball.

I would still like to keep it on topic and keep the conversation about Russ’ defensive rebounding and it’s pros and cons.

Let’s not censor ourselves on the whims of others. That’s what made Mao’s Cultural Revolution so successful, the lack of push back and quick capitulation :LLLLLebronlaughing:

    Cambridge dictionary:

I'll be honest - I have never seen this kind of usage being reffered to as offensive. It's used in some other languages in this context as well. In order to educate myself on this topic, I actually googled it... and got nothing.

yeah, i have questions about this. i don't know enough about russ's career to understand, but if it were me, i'd give him the primary ballhandler on the other team every night (read: the guy who scores most off the dribble) because it seems to keep him better engaged on that end. but nobody does this. and they're paid to make these decisions.

    words meanings change throughout history

Jesus being crucified (One of the most horrible ways to die) is completely different than fans crucifying a player on their team. We can choose to be more sensitive or ask the other party to expand their definition range to fit modern usage. Matters not.

If I say something is "dope", some think I'm taking about weed, some think that I think something is cool, and the plumber thinks I'm talking about PVC glue. Thousands of examples I could use, but this was the first that came to find. Try not to crucify me over the poor example, thanks.
