They had GS on the ropes until CP3 hamstring injury. Don't think that a feather in Westbrooks cap

On the ropes isn't winning. The fact remains that Westbrook has a better playoff record, as a point guard than everyone but Steph. Even though there is this consistent continuous noise, about how you can't win with Russell Westbrook. That is a false media narrative that keeps getting repeated. Russ lifted the sorry Wizards to the playoffs just last season.

Umm ok: team with player x is ahead in the series and looks in control, player x goes down and then they lose would actually mean that player is actually very conducive to winning

We don't get any credit for it looking like we beat Phoenix if AD doesn't go out. Why does Paul deserve special considerations? Being able to actually play is a part of the story too.

Paul has been in the league 17 years and has been to a Conference Finals twice. Yet he is an example of a " winning " point guard.

It’s not fair to defend AD in his thread saying he didn’t have enough help in NO and then attack Russ with the reasoning that he played with Durant and didn’t do well enough without him.

Players need great team mates to win.

Subtract the years Durant played with Russ. What has Durant ever won without Russ or Steph?

agree with the latter, but the claim i was disputing was that westbrook was better than paul based on playoff results. it's actually the same reasoning: paul's best teammate ever was harden. who was russ's second-best teammate on those teams!

AD never played with anyone within a tier of those dudes. are you arguing that point? can't remember which thread, but people were trying to say "but AD had rondo" at one point.

well, last year he took one-legged harden to within an inch of the finals? are you arguing that durant wasn't clearly the best player on all those teams?

    Russ is a scapegoat.

    Russ sucks.

    Truth is in the middle.

He has been great for stretches and horrible for others.

The Russ and CP3 debates? Don't matter. Both haven't won any hardware.

He was in the East and Kyrie was killing folks before he went out, let's not forget that fact. So IMO Durant has played with the greatest collection of talent in NBA recent history at the very least.

cp is way better than russ, now and in the past.

and i'm a russ fan. i like him way more than i like cp. cp is just clearly better at basketball.

as for our circumstances, it's not russ's fault he showed up and continued to be russ. it's our fault for thinking it would work. it's made him and his teammates worse.

You still can't point to how Paul was a better point guard. He didn't lead his team to any more success. His numbers aren't better either. They are both facilitators but different type of players at the same time. What exactly makes Chris Paul better?

Chris Paul wouldn't have this bunch playing much better and Phoenix wouldn't be much different with Westbrook. Paul wouldn't be making guys hit shots and Westbrook would be getting those guys the ball in Phoenix too.

he's carried worse teams to better outcomes. if paul had prime kd, he'd have titles. if stern didn't veto, he'd have titles. all of russ's best outcomes came as a second banana, and one whose flaws his teams had to adjust to. paul didn't really have any weaknesses. even now with his ancient knees, he's a better defender than russ. how is that possible?! hoop iq.

    It's not Westbrook s
You are talking If's like they are certified facts. Which worse teams are we talking about? It's not like.he played with a bunch of scrubs and carried them anywhere...which teams are these. Paul has been injured a lot, there is no garuntee that wouldn't have been the same somewhere else. Availability is part of the equation too.

Different circumstances...he didn't play half the season without a Lebron or AD caliber player. I don't see him taking Washington anywhere last season either.

It's not Westbrook's fault that half of this team has missed much of the season, including the two best players. He was brought here to be the 3rd option. He's held up his end of the bargain, he's been out there on the court, you can't say the same for his teammates. Paul didn't have to play without Booker and Ayton last season for the amount of time Lebron and AD missed. You like to say that AD and Bron being hurt is the only reason we lost to the Suns right? As for this season Phoenix brought an entire squad back that just went to the Finals. They are supposed to be a well oiled machine, considering how many keys players are missing time in the West. Place him here in these exact same circumstances that we are experiencing, I don't think Paul has this team much better than it is now.

Westbrook didn't walk onto a team that returned the bulk of it's nucleus from the year previously either. The Lakers had 12 new players including him to mesh.

My thing here is that there haven't been a lot of point guards, with any hardware recently from the Western Conference. I'm just pushing back on the Russ isn't a "winning " player narrative. If it's only a chip that defines a winning player, they aren't many winning players in the League right now.
