I think he's getting beat up a lot: I think the Lakers had the right idea in the bubble where he played the 4 for most of the regular season except crunch time and then in the playoffs went to him at the 5.

Him banging against Adams in a regular season doesn't make sense and guess what his knee hurt the next day. The problem with the Russ trade unless you him come off the bench is you're almost obligated to start him at the 5.

yeah, despite all the talk about the center being extinct, most teams do start a true, traditional big. again, AD could close halves at the 5 every game, but start all halves at the 4.

you're right, though, as many of us feared, russ at pg means AD has to play the 5 for offensive purposes. unless you have a lopez/marc gasol type that's big and can shoot. i think i'd still just eat the spacing issue and start a center with AD, though.

If AD is having problems at the 5, he needs to look in the mirror. It was Bron and his idea that hatched over the summer when they wanted Russ here. They talked about positions they needed to play to make it work and AD playing center was the plan they came up with. Unfortunately now we have a bad fit and no money or very limited asset to make a change.

    Any word on AD?

I’m not that opinionated about whether or not he should play the center but clearly we have Dwight and to a lesser extent DJ who can play the position for most minutes. If the result is injury to AD, however, we shouldn’t be doing it much until the playoffs. We can find other ways to optimize the starting lineup with a shooter like Ellington in there instead of Bradley or a two way hustle player like Reaves who seems pretty up for it and can pass as well.

I still don't understand why the Westbrook trade, somehow made Davis the only option at 5. Schroder was a lesser version of Russ, we didn't talk about AD at 5 all the time when we signed Dennis. Westbrook has actually been very effective with any type of center in his career. Just like he's doing with AD now, his bigmen have ended up with high number of baskets at the rim. Bigs love to play with the guy. Why did we have to annoint Davis as the only option at 5 tho? It's a good look at times, and against certain teams. The idea to start and play the entire session in that look doesn't make any sense to me. You give opposing teams an entire season to figure out how to defend your go to playoff lineup. It's was and still is a silly idea IMO. The team just plays better with Dwight at center, whatever issues they thought would be solved with AD at 5, don't seem to be that much of an issue in the first place to me. I wonder who is actually behind this idea. Yeah AD talked that noise about playing more 5, players do a lot of talking. He's also mentioned on several occasions that playing 5 might be hurting the team’s defense. He's correct, not to mention that this lineup hasn't forced anyone to go small to match it. If teams have two decent bigs, they play them, it counter acts this perceived advantage that we get from doing it. I think they should scrap this dumb experiment, as I've said from the gate, it doesn't work against everybody, and Davis is a 4 not a 5 anyway. Now WHO made them go out and sign Jordan? That's what I would like to know.

It’s AD and Bron’s silly idea, not mine. I didn’t want Russ.

AD didn’t start talking about it hurting the defense until recently. Our stars wanted a player that isn’t a good fit and wondering why it’s not working out now and trying to assign blame to someone else. I don’t really have a problem playing a center but we should have kept Marc or found another center that was a 3 point shooter then, not DJ.

Edit: and the reason why we don’t have Marc is because AD wanted Drummond and so we kicked
Marc to the curb and didn’t play him. Maybe it’s time for our stars to stop trying to be GM and just play.

The coaching staff and front office were all in on it. If Lebron and AD can just simply dictate what we are going to do, what do we need a coach for? I understand wanting Russ, elite players want to play with elite players. Putting forth a strategy, to get the most out of your players, is on the the staff and FO. It's been obvious at times, that we were struggling with AD, as the only big on the floor. That's Vogel's job to recognize that and play one of the two centers he was given. That's not on AD or Lebron..he has a habit of sticking with his game plan regardless of what's happening on the floor. The guy comes out and announces that he's only playing one center moving forward, and he might not play much. Really? Oh this is supposed to make opposing teams accommodate you by playing small too? No..they throw size at Davis and make him work on both ends of the court. It's just a dumb idea IMO.

There is nothing wrong with Westbrook's fit, the coach is having problems trying to figure out, what exactly the plan is on offense. Give it to Lebron and get out of the way, was not going to be the best plan A forever. What the hell is Fiz on the staff for? Blame needs to be going around in a lot of directions, it's not all about some plan Lebron, AD and Russ had.

Gasol was washed...that horse was bludgeoned to death. You think he would have been any better this season? Maybe Davis didn't want to play with Gasol? Meh..we could have signed someone better than Jordan or Gasol. A rim protector that can run the floor. A younger version of what we get from Dwight. I'm not enthralled with centers shooting three point shots, especially if that's their main way of scoring.

Doesn't mean because you felt that way everyone else here that didn't was convinced and conversation over. Stop declaring victory with your opinion.

My flag is firmly planted on that hill. He looked horrible in international play after the season too. Bring him back? No Truthfully...I don't think Davis wanted him back either. I can't remember him ever talking about, how much he liked playing with him. Lebron had praise for him though.

Of course not everyone agrees with me on the subject, that's cool, fans have differing views on certain players. No victory declared.

Drummond is better than Gasol and Jordan though.

Drummond was a bonafide disaster who couldn’t even catch the rock in the post nor guard anyone.
