The quandary is that Russ, is at his best attacking the paint and wrecking havoc in an uptempo style of play. Yet Vogel prefers to hold the ball until deep in the shot clock to limit possessions. We have to figure out the right balance between the two.

Positive AST/TO ratio today. Had some stupid shots, but overall, solid. I think he's trying very hard and is getting better overall. If this continues, we're good... well, as long as there are no more major injuries.

Since some people like +/- (I don't always) he was +14.

Some really good, some not so good. I think he’s trending in the right direction and that’s what we all like to see.

I still would like to see him at least try and fight through a screen. Maybe even go under one, once in awhile.

    He's been good this week.

We'll see how it goes moving forward.

The moment we complain about his play after his game his stans will come out, though.

So, I'll just refrain from criticizing.

Yep I'll be here to defend him. I'm not a super fan of Russ but now that he's a Laker, I'm happy he's here and I will defend his play to a large extent. Mainly I'm happy with his drive, energy and effort. But if his defense sucks I'll call it out and if his decision making stinks I'll join in on that as well. I just don't like the flat out hating on a guy that I see bringing a lot to our team, especially now that he's settling in.

What's done is done. You're not getting KCP, Kuz and Trez back. Personally I'm more than ok with that. The only guy I really miss is AC and that probably would have happened from the sound of it regardless of Russ (IMO, the FO chose between him and THT and went with the younger guy with more upside).

Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm very thankful to be part of this forum and Lakers community ever since the CL days. It's always been a source of fun and great way to discuss all things P and G and vent when needed. Have a great one!

I’m with you on this. I think players deserve praise and criticism based on their play. Not based on our biases against them. So I’ll protect him if he deserves it against irrational hate.

    Happy Thanksgiving LJ!

i think i fall into neither category? he was very bad for much of the first 10-15 games and has been improving lately. his off-ball defense has been problematic pretty much throughout, which is kind of a big issue for what we need to be. but he's been one of the only guys showing up and bringing any interest in playing hard, which is nice.

I was digging into the stats last night.

We've had 19 games? He has stood out like 6 games just from a statistical perspective.

The times where he's popped off screen and carried us might be about the same?

The turnovers have gotten better - his most recent 5 game trip he shot 33% from three, and I don't know what his TS% is but his assist to turnover ratio seems to have improved.

If I were to take the totality of the season: he isn't playing like an All-Star yet consistently. There are some games he isn't playing starter quality mins.

Again, we're 20 games in (it's early), and he's a 3rd wheel so we have to take that into consideration.

    We'll see going forward.

Oh, and one more note: I believe he got to the line 10 times against Indiana.

That bodes very well moving forward, too.

That means he's pressuring the rim attacking downhill in most instances.

    Good stuff.

I don’t consider pointing out if someone is flailing about on the court as “irrational hate.” That’s just giving one’s opinion, based off of evidence of witnessing sub par performances.
As I said before, he has been doing a much better job playing under control and is moving in the right direction.

Russ was pretty sensational tonight. It was probably the first time that I actually felt more comfortable with the ball in his hands down the stretch than Lebron’s who was awful in the second half of the fourth and overtime’s.

If our “big three” all played as hard as Russ we would have a few more wins

Thought he was phenomenal last night. That 13 point burst in the 3rd. Meaningful triple double. Managed and controlled the offense while only getting 3 TOs. We looked much better down the stretch when he was running the offense vs. Bron dribbling the clock out and jacking up 3 after 3.

Speaking of 3 ball, Russ' has been really good lately. 6-13 in the last 3 games

Games like that is why you get Russ, but he has to get help.

Honestly my thought here is more about the effort than just the output. Consistent effort from our big three gets us wins, especially against these bad teams. We’ve got plenty of talent. Just not using it effectively.
