I'm fine with him eating up the clock, but would've liked for him to hit Melo in the hands (who was clapping for it) for the straight away 3, even if Staples Melo was off.
It really is inexcusable. When we had a guy like Kobe, okay fine. Even then, I still liked to see SOMETHING drawn up to get him a half step away from his defender.
Have we seen at least one drawn, last seconds play from this guy? It's always a "hero chuck" from deep. Maybe he doesn't have that white board thingy or an iPad?
A Davis 3 against the Hornets followed by a Westbrook 3 against the Heat to win the game . These are basically the 2 worst shots we could have attempted .
I’m starting to see this team gel a little now. It’s looking a bit more like a Vogel team that we have come to expect. It’s going to look a lot better we get some of these guys back like THT, Nunn and Ariza.
i don't like dribbling around into contested threes on game-winning attempts, but coaches (not just vogel) do it ALL THE TIME. there has to be a reason. my guess: limits the possibility of a turnover. and a bad shot with no time left is better than a turnover. it's the cautious approach. running real action is super risky in those situations, imo. the other team is going to be locked in on defense and has probably scouted most of your set plays. so you better be confident in your call. almost no coaches are confident enough to do that when tied. when you're down, it makes more sense to take the risk and get the best shot you can.
Vogel's forte is defense, we may need to just settle for ugly offensive games even if it means we can become a really good defensive team. I have always known he can put together a solid defensive plan. Last year even with all those mounting injuries we were able to be pretty elite defensively.
what the hell was that play at the end of the 4th last match? "give the ball to Westbrook and he'll chug a contested three" ?
so...using AD as a screener to initiate offense is...a good idea? imagine running that set with lebron and AD as screeners and melo in one of the corners.
I'm no coach, but I feel like maybe AD shooting 3s and Westbrook being the lone rebounder isn't the best recipe for success. Does Vogel have the backbone to sit players who constantly do dumb stuff (Bron on the bench in street clothes berating the refs, techs leading to 5 FTs, Westbrook being Westbrook, etc etc).
Unfortunately no. And Rob Pelinka is the kind of weasel to hold it against him just to appease the stars.
yeah, vogel does anything to annoy AD or lebron at his own peril. i think some fans don't appreciate some of the limits on this particular coaching staff. in miami, the coach has the backing of management. here, no way.
Yeah we are in that type of situation, don't like it either. On the other end, we just won two games in OT without LeBron so we should be happy huh?
