They actually went away from things that had a lot of promise in offensive design to get Russ going downhill. I didn't get that. I don't blame Frank, yet. I also think he's under a lot of pressure to win with this group.
what system? 3yrs in and i rarely see any set plays, still the give ball to bron O and everyone stands around at 3pt line except now its give ball to bron or russ n stand around
He’s got his work cut out for him. Not going to be easy to get all these guys on the same page, but it was just the first game of the season.
1 game against the best system team in the NBA. They overtook Pop's Spurs cause Pop is coaching a lottery team now. Spo was on the verge of getting fired before the Heat figured out it. Bron's at a different place now and definitely wants no part of "coach killer" being added back to his resumé. Just saying this is going to take time and Frank being without three of his defenders (I think they see Nunn as one... or someone they'll groom into one) and having to play these hodgepodge lineups isn't helping the process any. Not going to judge these lineups until we have a healthy club. Bandaid trial and error right now.
vogel has his work cut out tbh going to be very tough to find the right rotations but I can tell you this much - rondo and westbrook in the backcourt together is NOT it. Do better, Vogel.
Agree. I think Westbrook + Bazemore is the play. The starters were actually +2 across 13 minutes in G1. All WB+Baze combos were +1 across 23 minutes. Westbrook non-Bazemore combos were -24 across 11 minutes. Primarily due to the bad Westbrook/Rondo/Monk/Melo combos. But even changing Rondo for LeBron didn't help that combo, as it went -8 in 3.5 min.
I think Russ can't be in there when we have a big that can't shoot aka Dwight/DJ. He needs to be in when AD is at the 5 and run those lineups as much as possible. If Russ is in there with a big that can't shoot, it just doesn't work and the floor isn't opened up enough for him. This is where having Gasol would have helped a lot...
OR - if there's going to be a big in there with Russ that can't shoot...need to have 3 shooters around them at all times for it to work...but my concern is that teams will just back up off of Russ and dare him to shoot when the big (that can't shoot) comes to set a screen. Then again...if Westbrook is literally wide open...he should be able to knock it down. It's the pull-up 3's with a defender in his face with 20 seconds left on the clock thiat really hurt us.
Let the outrage start again …. Fo sure it’s authoritarian Vogel overriding everyone else on his staff.
hey coach, how bout you actually start coaching....wtf are you having these players do in practice? cause it sure as hell isnt showing during gms
