Monk has some game..a mini JR Smith..Hopefully without the bone head plays. I can definitely see him and Melo putting in work on second units. I'm also thinking that with Russ here, we will probably have at least one of the big three on the court as much as possible.

Could be one of the biggest bargains of the off season. He's scoring really well from everywhere. Got some nice spoon fed looks from 'Do early to get him going.

I see some similarities between Monk and JR Smith but I don't like the player comp ultimately.

JR Smith was taller and could jump out the gym. I don't think Monk is on his level athletically. In JR's Cavs years I think he reached a level defensively that I think would be a feat for Monk. With that said it always seemed like Smith was underachieving, considering all the gifts he had as a player.

Monk is about 2-3 inches shorter and plays differently for this reason. He is more decisive offensively. He drives directly at the cup and he works to find his shot more quickly. JR would take these weird drives where he'd waste time dribbling, dance into the lane, and put up a contested reverse layup. Everyone was terrified of JR if he wasn't a spot up shooter. I already trust Monk in the sense that he's going straight at the defense. Monk's jumper is far nicer than Smith's too.

So far, I think Monk needs to work on reading this offense. He turned it over trying to set up DJ a few times from what I saw.

It’s a good take. However I think Monk will surprise you athletically, he can really get up. As defences start respecting his shooting, and with the gravity the big 3 command, he’ll slip a few people rotating late and just hammer down some monster dunks this season.

He gets lost on the defensive rotation rights: THT, hillbilly Kobe, Baze on the PnR coverage are really sticking it the roll man for example so that cuts off the lob threat allowing the help defender just to worry about the dribble penetratin. Monk gets lost on this.

Man if Vogel can get him to correct this stuff this team is going to be ridiculous to stop when AD gets moved to the 5

Monk with a groin strain. Please don’t be very severe.

Looks like we got a steal. Dude can play and he's not just a shooter...he's creating out there and runnin pick and roll and he's coming off screens like KCP and drilling 3's.

    I think there's a chance he starts..

Imagine all the open looks he will get from Lebron and Russ. He will be knocking down open jumpers or taking defenders off the dribble on run outs. He is going to blow up this year, the kid got some skills

ack. groin and hamstring injuries in camp can linger, largely because you can play on them, but it slows down the healing process and opens the door for more injury. ask AD.

I don't think any of those are serious injuries. Sometimes they use this as a reason why a guy won't play, but if they really needed to play, they'd be able to. Now, I do agree that even slight groin injuries tend to linger, but Monk is young... he should be fine. The "right thumb sprain" is probably nothing to be worried about. So far, the only "legit" injury is Ariza's, and unfortunately it affects us exactly where we needed that depth.

I assume it was discussed in the game chat, but I haven't seen it discussed after the game anywhere. It was one game and it's too soon to make any big statements without more regular season tape BUT that defense was awful. In my opinion, that was the worst defense anyone played in a Lakers jersey against GS. Poole would've ended his career if Vogel didn't pull him out of there during that 3rd/4th Q stint.

Melo is too slow, but you can see he knows what he's supposed to do. Can't react or recover quick enough. Rondo isn't going to give you Playoff Rondo D in the regular season. Monk is one of the youngest guys out there. I know his D was suspect in Charlotte, but if he wants to play ahead of Bradley then he's going to have to up the effort. Handy and Vogel got some work to do.

Everyone was fighting for the ball to shoot, Monk was just lost in the shuffle on the court.

it was bad. there's just not room on competitive teams for that stuff. i really wonder if reaves is going to end up beating out all the sgs by season's end, if only because he's a dogged and attentive team defender.

I’m keeping an eye on his upper body cause with normal days off between games now and pro facilities and trainers he’s going to gradually get stronger too.

He has done well in the 1st half, which is hard to do hard task of getting touches and good looks with this group so far.
