Marc did not have a very good experience playing for the Lakers. Timing was wrong, but my guess is his version of events is probably not going to be flattering to LA.

Well, there’s this, according to Harrison Faigen:

Lakers thought Marc Gasol could help them, but didn’t think he wanted to.

From the sound of things, the Lakers and Marc Gasol were both ready to go their separate ways.

    And the story: https://www.silverscreenandroll.com...ol-wanted-retire-rather-than-play-los-angeles

I think we all know we’ll be hearing more details later, about last season and this off season

Yeah I guess I just hope that it wasn’t a situation where the relationship WAS repairable but then WE were the ones who started forcing Marc out the door.

My current impression is that this wasn’t the case, Marc probably just realized he wanted to stay home once he spent time there this off-season. This takes the sting away a bit, because I felt we could still use him.

And his play in the Olympics against a lot non-NBA talent may have helped him come to that decision. Who knows at this time?

It's a shame he is leaving since Gasol provided something different to DH/DJ on both offence and defence.

I'm going to miss the passion over a bit player though. Gasol made for some interesting conversation fodder no doubt. I wonder who will assume that role this season..Melo, Dwight, Rondo?

We don't lack personality on this current team that's for sure. I'm thinking we have more of what we had in our championship season though as for as comradery and overall team fit. One thing i'm going to watch is how players that aren't getting minutes are going to react. We have a lot of wing talent and there's only one ball and 5 players on the court at any given time. That's the one part I dug about Dwight, he was always smiling and cheerleading while he wasn't on the court. I hope that these other guys will take a page from his book and stay ready and positive if they're not getting the minutes they think they deserve.

westbrook is our starting pg now. we're going to start a non-shooting, non-passing center, 3 guys that opponents leave open from three in our stars (even lebron, really), and one shooter. we'll see.

So the difference between our team that won the championship and this one is better offense (this one). Russ is an upgrade over Rondo so I'm still trying to see your point? Cmon stats guy (just busting your chops lol), we were 4th in offense that year with our "non shooting/non passing centers" and 24th last year with a guy who could barely walk (sarcasm obviously but he averaged career lows across the board) but made one 3 a game. This year we're basically marching out the same team as when we won it albeit more geriatric lol.

You're really hung up on losing Marc but we were awful offensively with him. I'll give you losing LeBron didn't help but we weren't anywhere near as efficient with Marc. What was he gonna do this year go Benjamin Button on us and turn back the clock lmao or play even less minutes and bring less production to the table?

His Olympic production was atrocious as well and if he really thought he could contribute he would have shown up to finish out his contract this year. Fact is the FO thought very little of him and he doesn't think enough of himself to even play this year. Food for thought

Playing for the team he owns. Isn't that a conflict of interest? No chance of getting cut.

rondo wasn't our starting pg (he started 3 games that year). we played kcp and bradley at "pg". also, AD was healthier and better that year than last year. also lebron played that whole year.

    you asked for it:

    upload_2021-9-12_14-35-47.png

top row is the most frequently used starting lineup last year. the gasol narratives perpetuated on this site continue to be wrong. we kicked a** with him as a starter and our regular guys available.

this is from the previous year:

    upload_2021-9-12_14-37-52.png

one positive is that the rondo/howard lineup was really good for heavy minutes, too. though it didn't include AD, which matters to the current discussion.

the top row is also encouraging, though avery was a better shooter than westbrook that year (by a good margin, actually).

tl;dr: full season stats from last year are silly because our stars each missed huge chunks of the year.

it's possible we'll be able to overcome playing offense without good shooters to start every game, but we better defend and RUN to start halves if we're not going to have a center that demands any attention outside of the dunker spot.

Again the only stat that matters here is 24th in the league in offense last year, 24th with the guy you say kicked a** vs 4th in the league when we won the title with the guys that you don't particularly like over Gasol. Also you're pushing a narrative that we don't have shooters. Didn't we pick up better shooters from 3 then we had last year? I mean percentage wise we have some real threats that we didn't a year ago. Now if the Laker curse wipes that out time will tell but we have shooters.

Friendly wager? Willing to bet we rank above 24 this season in total offense lol

    person a: x

    person a: but x
    person b: ??????

it's clear evidence matters nothing to you in this discussion.

lol. this one's rich. find the evidence that i have personal bias against howard or mcgee.

then dig through post histories regarding gasol and ask yourself who's got the weird vendetta. i just pick them because they're the ones lionized despite being equally or less useful by any measure.

we picked up several shooters that all play the same position, none of which is starting pg.

basically, you're wagering lebron and AD don't miss the bulk of the season like last year?

this is a waste of time.

We kicked a** with a healthy Lebron and AD period. It didn't have anything to do with Gasol, that's misrepresenting stats. Subtract AD from the equation, and those stats don't look so good.Following that logic, Trez, Kcp, Tucker, Matthews and Lebron was our best lineup. We should have stuck with that one in the playoffs.

You used part of a quote that wasn't me, "lol. this one's rich. find the evidence that i have personal bias against howard or mcgee." Don't know where that came from or was that you?

Evidence of what? Did we win last year? DId he contribute in the playoffs and help us win against Phoenix? Did he average career lows in almost every category? Was the FO happy with him? Did they trade him because they didn't feel he could contribute and wasn't a good fit for the team at this elder stage of his career? Or the evidence of being 24th in offense last year with him vs McGee and Howard at 4th?

I also never said Rondo started earlier so I don't know where you got that. I said Russ is an upgrade over Rondo because Rondo contributed heavily.

As far as wings not being starting point guards, that's the entire point so what am I missing? Russ (LeBron, Nunn, Rondo, THT) runs the point and has 40% shooters outside the arc, isn't that why we picked them up? The whole narrative about being worse outside the arc is beyond me.

And now are you assuming LeBron and AD are gonna miss lots of games because of the past 2 seasons? I mean I could sort of possibly agree there because LeBrons not getting any younger and AD can't stay healthy. But again that's the beauty of picking up Russ, Nunn, Monk, Ellington, Melo etc etc.. These guys can pick up some of the slack so he doesn't necessarily have to play heavy minutes.

I'm happy Gasol's gone, I think he was a bad fit especially for a fast paced game/on the break. Could he contribute in a light minutes role? Absolutely. I just know his best days are long gone and he has basically admitted that today by saying he will remain in Spain to play instead of finishing out his contract in the NBA.

It's not personal just a difference of opinion.
