He's a medical marvel from that standpoint. The fact that he could dominate a game, go on a bender, not sleep, and then literally run laps around everyone at practice the next day. Or go to Vegas between the Utah Finals games. Or play, party, then play again the next night. It all makes his accomplishments that much more impressive. Just imagine if he had taken care of his body or had a structure behind his workout regime or treated his body with any level of respect.
I knew a teacher sorta like that. The s*** he would put into his body every weekend would shock you. Then he shows up on Monday looking normal as can be--lucid, and functioning at a high level, everything. No one had a clue, or knew of the stuff he did except for a few of us. One or two weekends with him ingesting all those pharmaceuticals would kill me, or leave me permanently messed up. Incredible the s*** he put his brain through on a regular basis while emerging unscathed. Not sure what state he'll be in in the future, but we'll see.
Rodman still the best rebounder I've ever seen (never saw Chamberlain however). The instincts and anticipation is top tier.
Rodman played in an Era where everyone was better than Wilts too. That makes his accomplishments more noteworthy imo
He watched countless hours of his opponents and their missed shots so he knew the trajectory and where to be for the rebound. The dedication to film study for rebounds even impressed MJ and Pip. I've never seen anyone treat it like an art the way he did. Not only that, I would argue he was one of the greatest players at mastering the mental. He could get under anyone's skin and knock them off their game. He was so far in Frank Brickowski's head during the Seattle series, it was downright comical. Then obviously the battle with Malone that ended in a wrestling match both on the court and in the ring.
Recent story of Isiah Thomas asking Rodman why he was not participating in the layup drill. Rodman tells him that he is watching the rotation on their shots so he can judge where it was going for rebounds.
I was thinking about the Ben Simmons situation and think a trade does get done once Daryl Morey makes peace with the fact he’s not gonna get a superstar or 5 1st round draft picks in return. Having said that, there’s actually only a few teams that Simmons would fit decently that also have the assets to trade for him. I think these would be the teams in the running: - Warriors; they have a lot of young prospects and I think their best and final offer would be Wiggins + one of Kuminga/Moses Moody/Wiseman and maybe 1 draft pick. They would either play Simmons as their point guard, make Steph their shooting guard, and Klay would be the SF… or one of Simmons/Draymond plays center. - Portland, their best and final offer would be CJ McCollum and Anfernee Simons for Simmons. I still think Dame leaves eventually because this trade won’t turn Portland into contenders. - Toronto, they may have several different packages to offer. They could do Siakam for Simmons straight up, or a Dragic (salary matching purposes) + OG Anunoby and 2 or 3 future first rounders. I think Simmons on the Raptors would be very interesting, especially if it’s for the Dragic/Anunoby/picks package. They would have a pretty nice starting lineup of Simmons/VanVleet/Scottie Barnes/Siakam/Chris Boucher. - Houston, I can see Houston trying to get Simmons and build around him+Jalen Green. Houston would have to offer Éric Gordon/Christian Wood/Kevin Porter Jr. plus picks but I see this still unlikely to happen. I get the sense that there’s bad blood between Morey and Houston so nobody will do the other favors in a deal here. In summary, I hope he does land in Toronto to make the East somewhat interesting.
sacramento or san antonio should look hard at it, imo. fox from sac or murray/white from SA. pg is probably philly's biggest need, imo, and those teams need a star to build around and having them under contract for years is important.
If I was Morey I'd be hitting up Minnesota for Edward's straight up ( obviously salary won't match up so they'd have to include that here as well). He's already a proven scorer at almost 20ppg in his first season and he's a big body that can defend 2, 3 & 4's. If I'm Minny no way do I make that deal though Edward's is much more of a baller then Simmons will ever be. The only other trade that I can see would be your proposed GS deal for Green. Green could bring so much to Philly in terms of having been there done that on the games biggest stage. His defense is comparable to Simmons but I believe he has higher value because he's not scared of the moment and plays to a higher level when the lights shine their brightest. Simmons can be hidden on GS at that point with guys like Clay and Steph and used to defend while steph runs the point in crunch time. If I'm GS I don't make this deal either. Draymond is an integral piece for them and the return on Simmons makes them worse for what they lose in Green. Simmons has proven what's he's gonna be in this league already with 4 years of service. A solid/great defender, who can run the point forward but isn't gonna be able to contribute offensively in the clutch. He's the incredible shrinking man in the playoffs and he's not a leader that you expect your stars to be. Green encompasses all of this and more so to me his value is much higher. Green would be a great fit stylistically with Philly but I wonder how he and Embid would get on together. That's a huge part of it too but if I'm philly I'm willing to take that risk
disagree on edwards being better than simmons, but i agree that i probably don't pull the trigger if i'm minny. if i'm gs i move draymond and laugh my way to the bank. i think he's unstable, personally, and eventually it's going to blow something up. and simmons really isn't the shrinking violet you keep insisting he is (nor is green quite the playoff lion he's painted as here--his role is easier, too, don't forget). green's also now 30 and despite him yacking about other people's conditioning, he doesn't keep himself in great shape. personally, i think simmons for green+gs youth is the right move for both teams (maybe with philly rerouting the youth for a veteran pg).
