I swear, this morning felt like mourning. I'm rarely this upset losing a player... Ever.

THT, weight and length wise, can play SF on defense. Much like what's-his-face from rockets and bucks plays PF at 6'5".

Turns out that Lebron wanted him gone. His kids really liked Alex, but after his drug possession arrest, Lebron wanted nothing to do with him. He can't be running a school for children preaching the benefits of a drug free life and be an ideal father figure and not take a stand against casual drugs that lead to Dwight Howardish Hollywood Blvd behavior.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso arrested in Texas for marijuana possession

    Jun 23, 2021

Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso was arrested and released on Tuesday for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to Texas A&M police.

    Both are misdemeanor charges.

Lt. Bobby Richardson of the Texas A&M Police Department told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that around 2 p.m. Central Time, Caruso tried to board a flight at Easterwood Airport in College Station, Texas, which is located on A&M property.

The Transportation and Security Administration searched Caruso's bags and found a herb grinder that contained marijuana, Richardson said.

According to online records, Caruso was arrested for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. He was released after posting bond.

Caruso played collegiately at Texas A&M. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Since signing with the Lakers in 2017, the 27-year-old has played a key role off the bench the last four seasons. He averaged 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 58 games this past season.

When you have 3 superstars drying up your cap, you can't spend 10 mio. on utility guys playing 15 mpg.

When you have 3 superstars, you have the luxery to sign solid pieces (ring chasers) for vet min and IMO thats the way to go.

Every year if we have role players overachieving, we should be content letting them go and signing vet min replacements who basially duplicate the quality or maybe even do a better job. Thats the entire point of having superstars. The ability to sign solid guys for vet. min.

I'm still not clear on this trade exception we allegedly received for AC. Is this confirmed at the reported full MLE level? How does that happen if Chicago made him the offer and the Lakers told Alex they wouldn't match it. Did they then ask a favor of him to be S&T ed so they could get something in return? If so what is the difference for Chicago on their end?

I think that tweet suggested that we could turn this into a sign and trade to receive a trade exception, not actually reporting thats what we did.

I only saw a tweet saying it could happen. Never saw anything saying we actually got it

So, he was willing to take less total contract $$$ but not really any less per year. He signed for 4 years for 37mil. He offered to return to the Lakers for 3 years 30mil. That was no hometown discount per year at all. I think the narrative has been a bit slanted here. We counter offered at 7mil per year. I really wish they had split the difference and done 8.5mil per. I don't blame Alex for taking every dollar he could get, but at the same time I don't really see any discount offer to the Lakers.

I’m with you @Weezy, still sucks. We had a great off season but that doesn’t make losing AC a good decision.

From the linked article @Weezy posted above. It gives this Shelborne quote,

“I think the Lakers looked at Alex Caruso and said ‘we’re happy for you, we really appreciate everything you’ve done, we wish we could keep you, but, you know’... He was willing to go back there at three years and $30 million Brian, he actually gave them that option, even at the end — it’s less than what he signed for in Chicago — but even that was more than they were willing to pay... That was as far as they were willing to go. They looked at Caruso and said ‘we can go to $7 million a year, but above that it gets too cost-prohibitive.’”

Caruso was great here and actually filled a special role.

I don't think he has the same "value" in Chicago. But 3 years and 30 Mio. isn't what I would consider a "discount". They should have made a back-heavy contract, cheap for 2 years and expensive for the last 2 years or something...5/5/12/12 (34 for 4 years).

Finally the Deng contract disappears after this year. Then it takes 2 years to get Russ off that radioactive contract.
