unless TPEs are special? BYC rules are pretty clear:

if you're bird or non-bird, sign at a 20% raise, your outgoing trade value is half your new deal or the value of your old deal, whichever is greater. but your incoming value is full, which is why such trades are hard. maybe the latter is why you get the full TPE value?

They wanted Rose. He took NY's money and they scrambled. Maybe hoping AD'S IQ will makeup for some of Zo's iffy decisions.

In all honesty, disappointed with this move. :SmushFail2:
The intangibles...smarts and playing within himself. We won Game 6 in 2020 when slid into the starting line-up. :Carusoshaka:

    Gots to move on though...

I love Caruso and hate that they let him go considering the price, BUT…I’m willing to be patient and give Rob the benefit of the doubt.

There isn’t one player than can replace what AC brings, but there are paths to build an overall better team. I’ll reserve judgment until we have a final product.

Russell Westbrook will save us all.

But in all seriousness, better hope he does.

I get it's a money issue. It sucks, but hopefully the addition of Russell makes up for the loss of other talent around the team, and that the final product will look amazing and still rack up a lot of wins.

Caruso was a great role player no doubt but he probably wasn't going to be a starter. You can't be paying 15 mpg bench players $10M when you have 3 max guys on your team. We'll have to make do filling the bench with vet min guys.

On the other hand, paying (and investing on) THT makes much more sense as he's 7 years younger with a much higher ceiling as our only remaining project.

I think all Lakers fans took a hit to the heart in losing Alex. The world will move on, it has to. Alex was honestly never going to be on my top 10 Lakers list but he was a really great player who did the things we needed. He will be missed and I bet the first time he plays in LA after leaving the team, he will get a standing ovation.

Here you go LT. This reference is for @Cookie . This hurts more than Kuz. I really enjoyed what Caruso brought, and he made plays that normally don't get celebrated normally because they kicked a**. I really wish Rob would have done the right thing and kept the regal eagle.

Both the Lakers and Caruso will regret this on the B-ball side .

His main value was to do the little things next to Bron/AD and defend .

He'll get exposed if you ask him to do more offensively as a primary ballhandler or without much talent around him

Should have been a 24 minutes starter for us imo .

I’ll bet he keeps getting better. It’s not like there’s no talent around him on the Bulls and he’s part of that younger talent now. We’ll see how he does with more minutes though on your and others’ observations he can’t handle them because the coaching staff’s going to love him. LeBron didn’t make him a good player. He’ll continue to improve, just entering his prime years, barring as always with any player any bad injury setback. Go Eagle.

i've seen forms of this take and just disagree. first, he's a 20mpg guy, maybe 25. and he could either start at sg or backup both 1 and 2.

this is the small market team that just won the title's salary structure:

    upload_2021-8-3_9-3-30.png

that's missing portis, forbes, & tucker.

    here's the nets:

    upload_2021-8-3_9-4-0.png

    minus dinwiddie.

having another guy making ~10 million as a utility bench player isn't unheard of at all.

if they knew they could only keep one, they should have traded one, not let one walk. just bad asset management to boot.

caruso tried to stay. he had to take the money. i agree that he won't look as good in chicago. and people will focus on that as a reason why letting him go was fine. but it's not about what they're gaining, it's about what we're losing.

^ Caruso averaged 20 min last year, mostly as a backup PG. With Westbrook playing close to 40 mpg, and THT developing further, he probably would have played less.

Lebron, AD, and Westbrook are paid as much as the top 4 guys in Milwaukee. And Lopez is a starter, Caruso is not. Obviously the FO did not view him as a starter and that's what important here.

As for Brooklyn, Joe Tsai has a net worth of $10.7 billion. He could write off any loss in his part-time hobby (Nets) as an small expense of the gigantic Alibaba group. Not exactly apples to apples to Jennie Buss. Remember, the TV deal only brings in $200M per year. We're talking about burning nearly half of that revenue for THT and Caruso alone (including their luxury tax)

I agree that he could have been traded. I read somewhere about creating a TPE though?

Yeah, I came to amends with this one. Basketball wise he will be missed. But it's not like we will lose the title because of Caruso.

He will do good in Chicago, it's good for him to grow as a player.
Maybe he comes back even better

THT is a sf right now if he even cracks the rotation, imo (he has a long way to go defensively). and we'll play westbrook 40mpg only if we want him injured for half the season.

if ownership can't afford it, i'm sure they could sell at a whopping profit.

creating a TPE is ok, but it's doubtful it saves us, as anyone that would fit in it won't be as good as caruso (nobody trades away guys on rookie deals into TPEs).

we might lose a title because our ability to defend on the perimeter no longer exists.

THT is a SF? Come on man, don't make stuff up. THT is listed as a PG/SG and is utilized as such. He played the same minutes as Caruso last year (20.1 vs 21) so he'll crack the rotation without question, unless you think he's going to regress or plateau. Westbrook replaces Schroder (36.4 mpg vs 32.1 last year) which means less minutes for the bench.

And everyone knows the Buss family is not selling the team. We aren't like the Nets where billionaire's are buying the team only to sell higher later.

THT is a combo guard. He will get minutes at both guard positions this year. Apparently the FO values him and his high ceiling potential over AC. So, I expect this year he will get significant minutes. I would hope for a consistent 30mpg. Either slot him in next to Westbrook as the starter, or, start Ellington and have THT lead the charge off the bench as 6th man.

I expect all the SF minutes to be given to Bazemore / Ariza / LeBron (when Melo is at the 4).
