Oh I have full trust in Rob. There's no way they were planning on getting Westbrook when they traded for Dennis, so I'll give the FO some benefit of the doubt if they do ultimately let him walk, but I think we'll either re-sign or get him to cooperate in a S&T.
I hope it works out we can get something for him. Don't want him back. Maybe a little more humble realistic version would be okay.
Sometimes a trade works, sometimes it doesn't. Loved trading for him at the time. It just didn't workout. Let's hope we can S&T him.
he makes plays that win games. shots aren't the only way to do this, though he makes those too. more than schroder does. i don't know what a pecking order is, really. i just know that at the end of a game, i want caruso out there and not schroder. would generic lotto team rather have schroder? definitely. he can score and looks the part of a starting pg, maybe put some folks in seats in memphis or something. AC puts the team first and contributes to winning. that's my pecking order.
I get you, I like Alex too, I like Talen more though btw. Now that Westbrook is here, I think that fitting well with Lebron doesnt carry the same weight for Alex as in the past. When it comes to Dennis specifically, I'm greedy I guess, that's an asset that we gave up a first round pick for, I want something back for letting him walk. I do understand that he has every right to do what's best for him.. I just want it to also benefit the Lakers if possible.
we certainly agree on that. if he walks for nothing, it's a pretty big management failure. you can't reconjure that asset.
I don't see how that would be management failure if Schroder walks. He is a FA and if he walks he got an offer he likes. We already offered him more than he is worth. Glad he turned it down. By all accounts we are interested in working with him on a S&T. There is not anything more management could have done or can do to preserve the asset. At some point he has to be willing to work with us.
Yeah. We offered him a ton. Management was actually saved by his delusions of grandeur from making what WOULD have amounted to the pretty big management failure of having Dennis Schroder on our books for 84 million dollars. At this point, letting him walk would probably be the best course of action since (if I'm not mistaken) signing and trading him would result in a hard cap which would prevent us from resigning both Caruso and THT. Are we going to be able to trade Schroder for someone that would be better for this team than THT or Caruso? You can argue that Hield MIGHT be, but Sacramento has shown no interest in Schroder. They wanted Kuzma.
S&Ts out don't hard cap you (only receiving one does). it's a management failure to me in that once he declined the contract, you should have traded him for anything of any value at the trade deadline if you weren't confident you could work a S&T. so the failure would be understanding your ability to work your way out of this situation. but yes, dennis's stupidity did save us from ourselves a bit. though again, i'd be curious to get all the details on that offer. i really wonder if that last year was a team option and there were heavy incentives. gentlemen don't tell, and it's certainly not in dennis's interests for folks to know that. maybe not rob's either. anyway, i think if he walks for nothing, someone should be held accountable for poor asset management. we paid a lot for that cap space that we used on danny green (russell, lopez, clarkson, lou williams...take your pick), and we added a first rounder to turn it into schroder. you should have seen that it wasn't going to work because we all did. that said, i believe rob had his finger on this pulse, and dennis isn't walking for nothing. even a TE is fine. just not nothing.
So theoretically, if we expand the Westbrook trade to send Dennis to the Wiz and Kuzma to the Kings where we get back Hield, that won't preclude us from signing THT and Caruso? I mean, we'd be in cap hell if we did that, but that's legal?
I still think Hield is in play. Mason reported that Woj said the deal was Kuz + Harrell without the pick. Even with the Wiz trading for Aaron Holiday, that leaves him, KCP, and Beal as their guards. A trade for Dennis on a 2 year deal with an option makes sense for them. It would end up being: Russ for Dennis, KCP, and the #22 + Hield for Kuz and Harrell Something like that would make sense for all parties.
yes. our payroll would be brooklyn-esque, but that seems to be what we're doing. honestly, even with repeater taxes and stuff, it makes sense for the lakers to go all-in whenever they can. the franchise value is high and stays there when we're doing stuff like this (who's not watching this team next year, seriously?). it's worth the short-term hit. moreover, it doesn't really hinder moves, just penalizes financially. only the unholy triumvirate (full MLE--generally a bad move anyway, BAE--sort of a dumb and useless thing outperformed by vet mins, or received S&T--this one is the only one that hurts) are off limits. feel like washington would need a teensy bit more salary coming in, but yes, that general framework works and gets all teams things they should want. could totally see schroder screwing it up by trying to hold out for a bigger payday, though.
Yeah, not too shabby. Get a few bigs (including Dwight) for the vet min and maybe a 3&D wing with the MLE...? Westbrook - THT Hield - Caruso - vet min Lebron - Mathews - MLE AD - Kieff - vet min Gasol - Dwight - vet min I like.
Gasol detractors? Unless Vogel can construct the defensive scheme such that AD offers effective rim protection for the elite guards Russ and Buddy can’t stay in front of, or that are funneled by design to allow AD to get where he can do that? When AD went down this season that started the chain of events with Marc not able to rim protect enough the guards and wings getting through. Eeuww! Glass half empty not my style. I just read here D is not a strong suit of Russ or even more so Hield. Shouldn’t Wes start at the 2?
Personally, I'd try: Russ/THT New shooter/AC New shooter/Matthews Bron/Melo/(Kieff) AD/Dwight/(Kieff or Gasol) I'd be a big fan moving our two superstars to starting PF and C respectively. Use some trades or veterans to fill with shooters. Melo would fill in for Bron off the bench really well and he's a very good, smooth shooter too.
New shooters are such misnomers for the Lakers, let’s call them by their real names, wide open shot missers
