Technically, I think he was the second star towards the end of the 80's. Kareem was still great, but I'm not sure he was the second best player on those last two 80's Lakers teams. Dude was 40 and couldn't dominate a game the same way.
For me a killer sixth man is more important than a third star. While not your third most important starter, they are able to lead the scoring when your starters rest, lead and inspire the bench while creating a mismatch and tempting the other team to leave starters in to contain them. That third man can also step up to the starters when needed or finish in the fourth quarter. Odom represented that role with our team (in particular with the relative physical unreliability of Bynum). Ginobli was in that role for the Spurs, and Jordan Clarkson has been very important for the Jazz. If I am circumventing the question, than so be it, but I feel someone that can "star" and dominate the second lineups is a very important player and is integral to the team. He is who I hoped Harrell could have been for us.
