unless we absolutely exhaust all other options and are turned down, none of the MLE needs to go to drummond. just not a good use of what little cash we have to use. again, i'm hoping someone's silly enough to offer him over MLE or at least his agent will wait, and we'll pounce on someone better with ours. sort of like last year when i was worried we'd chuck the MLE at howard but instead got two better players for the same price.
Dwight is just not a good comparison for Drummond and opportunity for success 1) Dwight had burnt every bridge he had in the league so that he was considered a pariah. Drummond is on his way but isn't to the Dwight level 2) No matter's Dwight personality off the court, he was always an elite defensive player both in terms of physical ability and IQ. Drummond has not shown with any team including the lakers that he is a smart defensive player 3) He's agile for his size but Drummond isn't the same type of athlete Dwight was even last year. Dwight was a better lob threat and was much faster. Drummond is a plodder. I don't want to spend MLE money on him and the real focus should be getting more shooting and a big wing defender ahead of a C for next year
I’m just going with it looks like they’re planning on bringing him back so in a perfect world they’ll not pay him that MLE and he will prove he can become valuable by all the work I detailed above this off season. All I got.
I'm OK with him coming back. We need a big body for the regular season and he's super durable. And honestly I'm much higher on Drum than I am on Trez.
i'm not. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/harremo01.html https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/drumman01.html i think there's a lot of theories and very little data that support drummond as an MLE candidate. vet min, sure. any more, i'm looking elsewhere. i think i've already posted this list elsewhere, but here are free agent centers this summer who are likely available for MLE or much less (i left out guys that i think will fetch over MLE): r lopez theis noel mcgee howard biyombo hernangomez dieng len whiteside dedmon most of these guys will go for much less than the MLE, a few will likely be vet mins. we should have one of these and be free to spend our MLE on someone who can create offense or defend wings. spending MLE money on an ill-fitting center is just a bad idea.
He's still 27 and I think he'd develop into a net positive player with more reps with Bron and AD. While I agree that the MLE should be spent on a playmaker / shot creator, I'm not convinced Drummond would demand that much in free agency.
I’m thinking one of the small market teams that struggle to attract free agents will give Drum an offer above his value.
dallas isn't really a small market, but FAs treat it that way. and they could use someone who could rebound and generally muck around in the paint.
This is what I was alluding to in my long post above, comparing him to Dwight’s situation with Lakers last year with semi “do or die” impetus to put up or forget it. Not with Dwight’s personality baggage and past refusal to accept his limitations … last chance. But with perhaps last chance in perfect situation with L.A Lakers for Andre to take his game to a new and higher level (in his prime) for a team friendly and team “needed” for roster purposes to compete for title next year … less than having to use MLE deal on him. If he ever wants to work his way back to the higher dollar contracts again. If he is only concerned about money and not what playing on the Lakers and with AD and Lebron can do towards him being a better player going forward, then eff him, go somewhere else.
at his comment. He was never going to take the minimum though. And as much as I don’t like his game or his fit here he’s worth more than that anyway, he’ll be 28 going into next season and he’s still capable of easily putting up a double double average. I think he’s worth about the MLE, but some teams still might pay him more than that as well.

One thing you can say about Drummond. He's hell bent on bringing back the John Stockton short shorts.
excellent. i'm sure he and adebayo will make an imminently guardable front line that also will not stop my team.
Andre Drummond’s allstar basketball game appearances is behind him. I never saw him as a superstar. However, I think he could be a dang good 4th option on a championship caliber team. Wherever he decides to go they’ll be times where he’ll see the floor, and other times where he needs to sit. There’s only a handful of centers that can stay on the floor regardless of matchups.
