Pelinka could have made Slick happy I guess just bringing Dwight back and starting him with Harrell off the bench. Not that there wasn't something to bringing Dwight back. But what does the front office and the coaching staff know anyway, compared to this guy. And then they went out and got that guy to help out. Unfortunately they also had to promise him the starting position.

All that said, Frank is honing in on what is going to work barring more injuries of course.

I understand the modern game just fine. I just disagree on how important his shooting and floor spacing, is to the team’s success. It is an attribute that he possess and that has some usefulness, but NO..I don't consider that to be something critical in any way.

Now the rebounding, screens, boxing out, the occasional love tap. Yes, all for that part.

AD likes to face up and attack the basket. His jumper is a big part of his game. He can get on the block in small ball and do damage, but that is not his preference. If he is healthy, he does not NEED Marc on the floor to do his thing. He got along just fine with Javale, Dwight and Morris, and won a Championship. So again.. I think the Gasol is critical stuff, is rather underwhelming. That Lebron guy..he is pretty good too you know? He can pass a little bit, hit a few outside shots.

Drummond plus Gasol and Trez in spots is an advantage for us in a series IMO. I just see it from the boards and physicality aspect.

We see it differently, the games will be played regardless. Let's see how it plays out, this team has a lot of resources.

Hmmm..so in essence you think that Rob made a great move with Gasol. Then made a mistake with Drummond? Then he goes out and sabotages his team by promising a starting position to Andre?

Is that your take on the situation?

Yes. No. It didn't help things initially since Marc likely signed here with the same promise. Of course he didn't set out to sabotage things, don't be ridiculous. But as you boil it down to, props to him for being a pro about it and even helping Dre out by tutoring in a way things to help him, per Dre. And doing his best to keep ready and pointing toward the playoffs.

marc gasol: best lakers center since his brother (unless you count AD, who is a top five nba player).

and yes, rob nailed it with marc and should have pursued gorgui dieng or even an alex len type instead of drummond. but our stars wanted him, i think.

    but marc's better than dre.

True, in general. But yesterday’s game against Houston was a perfect example of the method behind Vogel’s madness. 20 and 10 from Drummond, Harrell with 16 points off the bench. Can’t complain with that production from our front court, the rotating lineups seems like it’s keeping everyone engaged.

I’m not sure if Gasol would have fit in well against Houston. Their biggest player is Olynyk and they have a lot of spry young athletes. I don’t think Gasol’s agile enough for his interior protection to have helped out much against these guys. Offensively, Trez picking his spots for easy buckets en route to the franchise record for points in the paint made more sense.

eh, can't know. they played kj martin--a non-shooting smallball center--for 37 minutes, so he could have just hung back on the paint defensively for much of the game.

Loved the cuts and the passing from Marc again. It's fun seeing the high IQ guys like LeBron and AC, to name a couple, take advantage of that.

i thought having marc essentially run the offense when lebron was sitting was key in that game.

Gets no minutes last night and sinks to page 2 today. This sucks.

    BUMP

I don’t care what I’m being told as to his shortcomings at his age, because frankly when he is in the game it suddenly looks like we have a Big who knows what the eff he’s doing out there both sides of the ball. It’s now 5 on 5 mentally and with “effectiveness” as far as good basketball, instead of 4 on 5. In fact it’s akin to having a lot of the effect of having Rondo in the game for us last playoffs because he knows what he’s doing so well that he’s actually directing teammates both on offense and defense where they “should” be if they’re not. The offense literally looks immediately better and people move and get hit with beautiful passes a high % of the time on their cuts.

pretty sure marc gasol can watch steph curry play basketball, too. and he'll do other things that are useful. shameful what we've done to him, imo. he'll demand a buyout or trade this summer, and we deserve it.

I didn’t really expect him to play yesterday, the Warriors play such small lineups he’d have definitely had trouble chasing guys around. I do expect him to play vs Phoenix though, I feel like Vogel will do the right thing when it comes down to wining a ring, he did last playoffs anyway.

Everyone is pining for Marc to play tonight. For our sakes I’m rooting for him start and be fleet footed as a gazelle defending the double P&R’s, hit about 4 threes, about 6 assists from the Grand Canyon opening off the amazing floor spacing and other worldly basketball IQ he provides, and about 3 blocked shots. Whatever it takes for us to win.

Let's see what happens. I'm sure they made adjustments and there will be some minutes for Marc as well.

we wasted a poor long-range shooting night from them in game 1, so i don't expect a thrashing. i just want to see something more than what we saw in game 1, then build from that.

i worry that playing (my guy) marc might be a distraction at this point. unless you're going to start him and bench drummond, i don't see the value in playing him against phx, tbh.

but i'm in favor of him playing and drummond not playing.

I'm liking Drummond more than Gasol in this game. We lost some intensity when Gasol came in on both sides of the ball. I don't have a problem playing Gasol some if he is playing physically. I think Drummond absorbs more contact from opposing bigs on offense, it helps AD. He takes more contact from bigs with Gasol, because Marc is on the perimeter and teams play him with forwards, leaving their big in the paint to bang on Davis. Marc just doesn't shoot enough to really make it easier on AD either. The second half should be interesting to watch the contrast between Gasol and Drummond.
Kcp and Kuz gotta pick it up though or play someone else.
