    Yikes!

As long as he's good for the playoffs. But we're going to need another body of he's out another month.

As long as we can keep winning, say, 2 out of 3, keep AD glued to the bench. Let Schroeder/Kuz/THT/Trez develop some chemistry. And throw some early lobs to DJ. That's all. I don't want to risk our future and our primary star who can and will attract other stars to our team for some meaningless wins in the second half of the season. But when he comes back, he better come back healthy and ready to play.

What is the severity of this injury....? And why did the Lakers still play him when it was obvious he wasn't healthy? The fact the Lakers are pushing so hard to get some big bodies when it's the shooting that has been problematic for us is weird. I'm guessing the Lakers are having a worst case scenario situation where if AD can't play or has to rest in the playoffs, the Lakers really need some front court depth. Something isn't adding up.

They’re being super cautious with it now as they should have been from the start. @D-Fish Man has had it and says really just needs enough rest and modern therapy. Guessing electric stimulation too however they do that for increasing healing circulation and weekly MRIs?

I certainly never got any electric stimulation for it but I'm also not a pro-athlete/9-figure investment so I bet he's getting all sorts of goodies that mere mortals like us never see. I do wonder if "tendonosis" was a dressed up way of describing something slightly worse because tendonosis really shouldn't require 8 weeks of rest, or whatever we're looking at now..

I don’t know .... I got like 10 minutes of it each rehab session 15 years ago following a reattached biceps tendon.

But that’s what they were calling it before he went back out and played again and hurt it worse?

guessing he had some initial/partial tearing of the achilles and we luckily shut him down before it snapped.

So scary if that’s the case, how do they be certain it’s 100% before risking playing him again? MRIs?

i don't know. again--i was just guessing based on how it's played out. and yes, if the MRI can detect the tear/inflammation, it can probably detect its absence.

what it can't detect is the root cause, though, which is troubling.

Achilles is avascular organ. What happens all the time with runners (including myself who got tendonisis) is that you get micro injuries in the tendon. This is not surprising we get little injuries everywhere all the time when exercising. In fact when building strength one hypothesis is you get stronger by the healing process.

however with the Achilles since it's avascular your body doesn't heal the little injuries and as they accumulate you can proceed to something like tendinitis or worse case a tear. Conversely healing is slow as without a strong blood supply it take the body longer to heal it up. I got tendonisis and for me it never quite back the same but that's also partly due to my middle age and the fact I'm not a pro athlete so didn't get into sports medicine and tried to let it take care of itself.

That being said the lakers reports are it's not at the tendon itself and you have other areas which can get injured (i.e. insertion, calf, etc.). Considering the short term around time of the season and the Lakers are cruising along, I suspect that they are going to take their sweet time to clear him which is the right thing to do but not necessarily a long term concern.

thanks for the insight on that. i think my concern is that we don't know exactly why he's having the problem (and clearly, neither do they). so there's a chance of recurrence (which already happened once, it seems?).

I think AD playing nearly all the games was a 1 season phenomenon. He usually misses plenty of games. This is actually normal. We need to think long and hard about that.

IS he THE GUY we want after LeBron is gone? Fair question IMHO

I think the problem with this question is IF NOT AD, then who?

The only other players I would want are Giannis and Luka. Both likely would have to force a trade and we would probably have to give up AD to get either.

More than anything, I think he’s a great #2. He just may not be healthy enough often enough to be reliable as the main guy.

But I sure would like to combine him with either one of those guys you just mentioned

No worries. AD is gonna be a great wingman for THT once Lebron is done.
