Marc Gasol Discussion: The Rain In Spain Falls Mainly On The Plain

Marc is still a good player, but to me he’s best served as a backup center.

not resigning Howard and paying a lot more to get Gasol may go down as one of the worst decisions of the FO in the last few years.

I was excited when we got him because I remember Gasol being an excellent player just 2/3 years ago, but boy is he washed

 

So what about Dennis and Ad. Guys are not stepping up. There is no improvement. Clips won games without PG and KL. Nets won without KD and JH. Kief, Gasol, Mathews - just trash. And benching Trez in OT - Vogel getting out coached every game.

 

yeah, i've been trying to stay patient with marc and its just not happening

letting dwight go was a very stupid decision

 

think i may take a break from this place.

i won't repeat my points and stats regarding marc vs. the holy duo, because it's obviously useless.

but a rough patch following a title has turned this place back into what it was during the actual dark times--when we were terrible and literally had no hope of improvement.

three weeks ago we were the best team in basketball. nothing's over. it's a slump. it happens to teams that win titles. LIKE WE DID A FEW MONTHS AGO.

 

I can understand wishing we would have kept Dwight or otherwise finding a way to construct the roster to prioritize a more athletic center.

But given what options we had, I don’t quite understand the fanbase’s overwhelming disappointment in Marc.

He’s performing pretty much exactly how I expected him to coming into the season. Sure there are games he’ll be invisible or a liability due to matchups, but generally he’s a big body that can plug up the paint against certain matchups, and meanwhile he helps facilitate ball movement in the offense and can hit threes at a serviceable clip.

I’m content with that. Not sure what else anyone expected from a 36 year old center who plays limited minutes?

The point is that we usually won’t need more production out of that from our starting center. When we have AD and are fully healthy, Marc’s 5 points and 4 boards or whatever he gives us is sufficient.

I think what we need is depth for the Center position, not necessarily that much more production. It’s why I’m fine with Boogie even if he’s washed and gives us similar production as Marc. The two of them can help each other keep their legs fresh.

 

Why don't you want to admit Dwight and Javale would resolve our 3pts shooting woes though ?

Anyways , nice to see Marc letting it fly from 3 without hesitating .

 

btw, gs f'ed around and found out last night when they didn't close out on gasol in the first quarter. it was important for him to can those, as other teams are watching. a big part of his value is that teams need to be afraid that you'll be down 18-3 in the first 4 minutes if you don't send a guy out to gasol at the three point line.

 

Yep I thought he was great too. Just a solid, skilled and very smart BIG center. And when the playoffs get here I personally expect him to ramp his movement and game up some additional bit. When he's hitting those 3s early on as well it sure opens things up.

 

Gasol is a Center that will actually be useful for us in the Playoffs, unlike Dwight & McGee.

 

Too bad the "He's washed "crowd keeps feeling so sad about him .... oh well.

ball wasn't above rim, hence not rim protection. mcgee would have waited for it to get up, then thrown it to nevada, causing the officials to end the game in a lakers victory by default.

 

This thread has taken a turn for the better.
