His refusal to shoot a jumper is totally messing his game up. For all the counter dribble and spin moves he has right now it doesn't look like he's reading the defense and basically just putting his head down and just trying to force his way to the basket. The defense is laying back now so he's getting stuck in no man's land.

They're really laying off of him as he's established himself as a driver, he's got to now be able to either shoot the jumper or do some back cuts to punish the defense for sagging so much

 

Smaller Draymond or Simmons. Can make plays. Defend. Finish. Can’t hit Js.

 

THT is horrible shooting the ball. His G-League days statistics for shooting the ball is horrible. Most of his shots are going to be near the rim which is something THT will have to figure out eventually.

 

Don't pidgeon hole him forever, what the heck. He will get there shooting and his shooting form doesn't look bad at all. That huge game in pre season he shot well from 3 and has buried some 3s in games earlier. He'll get there with work.

I think all these young guys would be well served to develop on their own for when they get trapped in no man's land and can't get to the hoop .... being able to take shorter Js and hit them inside the 3 point line. With that competency of course you can naturally shoot better from longer too. Sure was a strength in Kobe's game. Schroder too. Bunch of freakin' short shot snobs in NBA today and college thanks to Dan Tony and analytics.

 

he's shot well for stretches. these takes are odd.

 

I don't think he's got a bad jumpshot: he was able to hit a bewildering variety of them (step back, pull up, C&S) in the pre-season.
My concern in the last couple of games is that teams are laying off him both at the corner 3 and when gets the ball and dribbles. They're daring him to take the shot and instead of taking it, he's putting his head down and barreling into the trap the defense is setting for him.

This happens all the time as defenses get more film on a young guy, he's got to make the adjustment now and I think he's got the skills to do it

 

Got to take the good and the bad while trying to develop him , it's not a usual thing for fans of a championship team though

He's a good individual defender but man he has trouble rotating back to the 3 point line

 

Yeah, he got burnt on at least 3 triples. Couple deer in the headlights moments. Trial by fire though. Need some more time in the film room with Dudz and Wes.

 

Good individual defender. Needs a lot of work as a team defender. He gets lost in transition and makes wrong and poor rotations. He needs to sit with Kidd/Mathews/Dudley and learn from them.

 

Overall I thought Miami was a strong game for him: he showed what the hype was about.
Once he hit just one 3, the driving lanes again opened up for him

With DS out, I would run the offense thru him with Lebron sitting. He's the only guy who can dribble penetrate and he's an advanced passer already

 

Be interesting to see how he develops being around a championship level squad. Does he bust out and become a star, or does he become an elite role player or excel in a role like Kuzma has been doing?

And what position does he play? Have the coaches even decided yet? Seems to float between 1-3 at times.

 

Kobe like precise footwork sometimes and counter moves when in close to the basket. At just turned 20.



Nice to see him hit the occasional 3 as well.
