yeah, let's hamstring the franchise for a half decade to prove a silly point about toughness.

AD played a huge role in delivering a title while playing through an injury. he doesn't have to show he's tough anymore.

This was handled as poorly as you possibly could pretty much.

This could pave the way for a smirking S. Meat’s return to LB. :(

Especially now with the “collective” impact of the Kids and Zion having the Pelicans turned around and near the top in the tough West.

    Oh wait.

Jeanie should read this and then call everyone responsible including AD into her office and rip them a new one .... channeling Magic’s 140db beat down of Luke or one of those Hitler parodies.

What is the point of adding all that depth if we're not going to give AD extended rest with such a serious and fickle area with regards to career threatening injuries?

Give Trez and Kuz the bulk of his minutes. Work Morris into the mix and activate Dudz. We also have Bron who can play PF.

At this point, I think we need to be overly cautious and let him sit till after the unnecessary All Star Game.

I love that AD wears Kobe’s signature shoe. Really wish he’d wear the high top boxing type Kobe shoes going forward.

If anything, I think last night's occurrence was a wake up call to everyone including AD. Lebron, the Lakers and AD are all saying the right things now, which is take this thing seriously, rest up until you are 100% and don't risk it. We have enough pieces to keep winning at a decent clip even without AD. We might drop a couple spots but the important thing is getting healthy for the playoff run.

I'm extremely worried. AD signed a five year contract citing 'long-term deal because of injury concerns.' I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure AD had to have gotten some indication that he could be dealing with some sort of lingering injury. The fact that he only took two games off is ridiculous. Who is running the show there? Everyone knows that if AD or Bron goes down, the Lakers won't sniff a title. For Christ's sake, just rest the guy and I'll take the Lakers chances when they are all healthy. So what if the Lakers are a 1st or 6th seed. There are no fans so it's not like there is going to be some sort of huge change. Just get healthy... It's no longer about simply being the best team. It's which team can stay healthy and grind out the COVID restrictions the best. All it takes is one positive COVID test in the playoffs for a team to instantly lose.

Absolutely agree. All indications are that everyone gets it now, including AD and he will do what's necessary to heal up (resting!!!). That was a very scary sight last night.

Sounds about as good of news as we can hope for. Just a strain (and not even specific to the Achilles apparently), and now we know we have to be conservative and rest him for at least a few weeks.

Multiple weeks? Of course it's going to be multiple weeks... it better be. They should have been conservative back when the season started. Everyone said AD did not look quite right. As I said earlier, this is why we have depth, we'll manage just fine. Losing few extra games here and there does not mean anything.

Im ready to see the depth show up. Kuzma is showing he can handle the workload. Let's see how the young bucks do...

I 100% agree and I was hoping that AD & the Lakers took the first announcement of Achilles tendonosis as the wake up call. I haven't looked at the fine details of the timeline, but I feel as if you can pattern a history of Kevin Durant's calf injuries similar to AD's. I think AD is extremely lucky because A) we have a recent case in KD to kind of anticipate what he AD might go through B) he's been given warning injuries that might signal an eventual tear if he doesn't rest. What we know about Achilles tears is that they are usually sudden. I feel like athletes don't usually get this kind of warning for an Achilles tear. This is like the 3rd or 4th wake up call.

yeah, i think it's a closer call than they're suggesting. my guess is he was a hair away from snapping that thing. i better not see him for a month and until after a bunch of clean MRIs, etc. can't stress enough that if he tears an achilles, we lose a lot of the ground we've made up in the big picture. it's why i wished we were more cautious before now.

same. can't expect a 1 seed anymore. everyone needs to live with that. GS is being careful about not overplaying curry even though he's gone full nova and could basically win them almost every game if they played him all 48. we need to be mindful about lebron and thankful that we built a cushion in the standings.

i'll take a 4/5 seed and a shot at utah in round 2, for sure.

He can take off until the 1st week of April. I think we can stay in the top 5-6 until then. We need him fully healthy and get into rhythm before the playoffs. Rest as much as he needs. Chance for Kuz/Harrell/THT to put up major minutes and production

Calf strain , same injury as KD before the Achilles tear ? Yikes , better be sure it's "healed" before playing again.

As for the team record without AD , given the remaining 9 games schedule and how bad we've recently been on O , a 4-5 record is likely
